Hey everyone. I'm kind of new to the world of the modifying, so I need some help from all of you.

I drive an 08 G37. I've got a general idea of what I want to achieve, but I'm not really sure which parts to get exactly. First of all, I want to start with air intakes, and an exhaust. I'd like something with a sweet sound. Then I'll move on to a suspension system, headers, etc. till I get to the stage where I can put a turbo on or something (but that's for later).

I'd really appreciate your input on what air intake and exhaust to get (price not an issue).

Are you planning on keeping your warranty?

If so I would consider a dealer installed suspension and wait for the rest.

Ya, I'd like to keep it, but if you suggest a part that won't compromise the life of the car I'd happily put it on.I checked with my dealer, they only have a Nismo exhaust system, nothing else. I want an air intake and a suspension system, but don't know which ones to get.

Well see that is the problem. If you use non Nissan approved parts you may well just void the warranty.

For example there is a fella here that had his engine blow up. Regardless of what the actual precipitating factor was it cost him over 13k to fix outside of warranty since that ended up being voided.

Stillen Long Ram Intake, Stillen HFC, Stillen Brakes, UR Pulley, Cobb Protune are some of his mods. Stillen is advertising a set of mods including intake which is suppose to net you 50+ horses. My guess is this setup just may end up voiding your warranty if something happened that could remotely be tied to an engine failure.

Even if a dealer installed the modification and gave you a warranty and wrote you up some sort of legalese that it would not void your warranty I think you could end up with only that dealer honoring it in the end.

Often times you will see posts here about aftermarket parts being warranteed, I have a feeling that if you really read the warranty you would find that the aftermarket parts which were dealer installed do carry a warranty against 'their' failure, which of course doesn't help you much if what they are attached to fails.

My suggestion is to be very careful here and maybe go above the dealer to maybe the Infiniti regional rep and get their permission when it comes to what is approved.

I'm from Bahrain, so the dealership system here is much different than what it is in the States. There's a sole Nissan and Infiniti dealer for the whole country. As long as I do something that's approved by the dealer I should be fine. Air intakes and exhausts won't void my guarentee if it's a well known brand.

So not taking into consideration the warrenty situation, which air intake/exhaust combination would you go for?

Probably the Stillen so you get a good name brand. I would still get the dealer to put it in writing that it will not affect the factory warranty as often they make an issue of the parts being under warranty. If the engine dies I care a lot less about the exhaust being under warranty so i would get this in writing and then maybe go for it. To me the biggest item that could be an issue is high flow cats. As far as filter material if it is a wet system (oiled versus dry filters) you need to be careful about not fouling the sensors in your intake.

In any case be aware that under normal driving conditions at lower rpms you can actually have a decrease in performance over stock. Most of the benefits with these mods are at higher rpms, sometimes not really showing themselves until at least 4-5k. How much driving at those rpms are you planning? I state this since any modifications can carry a reliability risk along with the performance benefit. One reason I would go with suspension/tires, etc. mods.

I really didn't take that into consideration. I mostly drive in traffic, but it would be nice if I had something that sounds nice rather than stock.

Thanks for your help Perry

I would get a Stillen Gen 3 Intake.

I would also get a Fast Intentions exhaust. HKS is also great. I'd tell you to get a motordyne exhaust (www.motordyneengineering.com) but I dont know if Tony has made one for the G37 yet.

I sort of wonder, how hard is it to change filters?

It should be pretty easy. Just take off the grill (not difficult) and remove the filter.

It wouldn't bother me at all.

I decided to go for just that. Stillen Gen 3 Intake + FI exhaust system + Stillen Headers as a start.

First time I've heard of Motordyne exhausts though. Don't know if I'll go for it.

Headers don't do a lot without a tune, so keep that in mind. You'll pick up about 15 with a tune on them. You'll lose low end without a tune.

I know Cobb Tuning makes the AccessPort for the G37. IF you have a tuner in your area that will dyno tune it I'd look at that option. Not sure if Uprev has Osiris for the G37 yet...if so that is a great option as well.

Motordyne is freakin awesome. Trust me when I say that. Tony has a G35 and is a genius. Do a search online and check his stuff out. Its awesome. When I changed my exhaust and went with his it was way better and quality was top notch. If he has a system for the G37 I think you'd be crazy not to get it. Just my .02
