What's going on everyone,

I am fairly new to modification. I am looking into upgrading my stock audio system for my 2008 G35. I went into a stereo shop recently and they were trying to get me a 4 or 5 channel amp (brand MEMPHIS which I never heard off) and just hi/low to power current stock speakers. Just looking for tips. I am looking to get more clarity than just bass. AMP? Components? Subs? What is the best way to go? Money is not the issue. Looking to spend up or more than 2gs. But, I want to do it right.

Thanks for any help

Here there Frank, Welcome to NICO! Great choice with the 08 Sedan!

If you are going to upgrade the audio system I would advise against replacing the factory radio. There are several features contained in the audio unit, the bluetooth, HDD,voice command, navigation, and several display outputs and CAN lines run though the unit.

The G already has something like 10"Bose door components. If you are going to be upgrading it seems like you would have a pretty good place to start.

The one thing I cannot stress enough is Research ResearchResearch. You have a pretty pricey car and you can easily cause thousands in non warranty damage having untrained people messing with the electrical system.

Good Luck,

Keep us posted on what you end up deciding on, and maybe a build thread?

This is what I would recommend. Keep the stock head unit and upgrade the rest. What you can do is buy a contraption that will eliminate the factory equalizer settings. Buy amps as well, Memphis amps are a solid choice, I have heard nothing but good about them. Amps will increase clarity for sure when properly set up and tuned correctly. Upgrade the speakers, use components where possible. And yes a sub or two, you'll probably be good with just one unless you want really want bass.

If you want clarity, then you'll have to replace the entire system. However, I was the same way until I heard a G with just an added subwoofer. With bass blockers on the rest of the speakers, the addition of the sub made everything sound better.

Good to know cause I'm debating upgrading mine. It needs more thump. Might throw this rockford 10" sub I've got laying around in and see how I like it then.

So, I upgraded. I got the Memphis Belle AMP, single memphis 12' sub, and Focal component set. It all was a bit pricey but the difference is amazing. It is not a complete custom install but it looks clean and gets the job done.

How do you like the Memphis Sub and Amp? I have a JL Audio running my two 10" subs and a ADS running my fronts and rears. My subs are JL W V3's.
