2008 EX35 smells

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I recently purchased a 2008 EX35. I love it, except for one thing. The interior smells. I think it's coming from the leather seats, although I can't say for sure. I hope to get rid of the smell before my first newborn arrives in July. I don't want them to be breathing in the fumes.

Does anyone have a problem with the interior smells in 2008 models? And is there a good solution of getting rid of the smell?

that is weird. I bought an used 2008 and at the dealer i felt a weird smell too. I was wondering if the previous owner smoked ....

After a couple days using the car the smell was gone.

The previous owner was a non-smoker.

The best way to explain the smell is a mix of leather, plastic, & beef jerkey

It's worse when the car is sitting with windows up. I always keep the windows down after I drive it into the garage.

Other than the smell, it's a great car! :0)

I can almost say for certain it's the after effects from the dealer or previous owners attempt to shampoo/clean the carpets. I have experienced the same odor in some of my pre-owned cars so I know what you are referring to. You may want to have the car detailed by a professional shop or at least have them clean the carpets again and allow it to air dry with the windows open. Some carpet or fabric air freshener will help as well.

Considering the car floor at the passenger side was so damn dirty i bet that was the reason.
Before taking the car i asked them to clean it. they took the car and "cleaned" and gave me a new set of carpets. (and the floor still has some color marks on it)

the smell is gone so if the smell is from cleaning the smell will disappear soon.

I don't think you're alone. I have owned a 2008 since September and it still has that "new car smell". It smells more 'leathery' than 'plastic-y'. No hint of beef jerky though :) . I've gotten used to it, but it still bothers my wife sometimes.

We usually park the car with a window or the moon roof cracked open. It helps a bit, but the smell still hasn't gone away entirely. Whenever I'm out with the car, I use the keyfob remote to roll the front windows down when approaching the car, in order to help air it out. I have never tried an odor bomb, but I may try to keep some baking soda in the car if the smell bothers my wife even more than it does now.
