2008 EX35 iPhone Bluetooth Sounds Aweful!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hey Everyone, I would really appreciate some help. I have a 2008 EX35 with navigation. I have owned an iPhone 3G, an iPhone 3GS, and an iPhone 4. Every phone I have had has sounded like crap to the person I am talking to while using the bluetooth. Is there something I need to do.

1) Other person cannot hear me well when using the builtin bluetooth

2) Can't transfer address book (I assume this is not possible for the iPhone)

3) Can't stream music via bluetooth (although since iOS 4.0 the ringtone, a song, plays over the car audio). Since my ringtone can play it makes me think all my songs can, anyone know how.

Question 1 is of the upmost importance to me, because it is currently so bad that I am using my handset and I have already received a ticket for it. Please help. I am very tech savvy and know a lot about the iPhone. I am an app developer and even willing to write a piece of code if anyone knows what needs to be done.

Thanks!

Can people not hear you if you (1) have the windows open? and/or (2) have the air blowing at full blast? People have trouble hearing me in my 2008 if I have 1 or 2 above.

No, I have no window or air conditioning going. I am starting to think this is just me and I got a faulty system. Anyone else having trouble?

I have this problem. Mine is an EX35.

Things that have helped but not solved the issue. I adjusted the mirror a bit and that helped. I also learned to not raise my voice or talk into the mirror mic as that overwhelms it.

But everyone says it sounds bad still.

I have an EVO 4G.

Also I am tall 6'4" which I bet might have something to do with it. My head being closer to the mic / mirror.

I have my phone sync-ed to the factory unit and haven't had any complaints yet. I am using a Nok 5800 and so far the voice quality is loud enough for both parties to hear clearly w/out needing to lean forward to speak / raise voice. PS. I've done this on highway speeds and also local streets and no issue yet.

I can stream bluetooth music from an iPhone, or any phone, by plugging in my Anycom FIPO into the iPod cable.

Turned off the Bluetooth in the wife's 2007 G35 3 years ago. Really that bad.

The EX35 is fair.

Never owned a car where it worked perfectly.

Got a EX two weeks ago 2010 and we have the same problem. I had a Q45 years ago an that phone system was perfect. I have not tried any other bluetooth system but a co worker said his Mustang is perfect. If Fored can do it so should Inifinity

Same problem with our 2008 EX35. Anyone who talks to me would rather we talk on the handset..

Just remove the phone from your bluetooth list and then repair. I have to do this every once in a while when people begin complaining about call quality. Something to do with Bluetooth and the associated wireless standard. Could also have something to do with the Bluetooth chipsets that Apple and Infiniti use.

Got a 2010...it sucked so bad I just turned it off. I just use the handset. Thought it was going to be a great feature through the voice actived system...but I got so many complaints and tired of repeating myself and said screw it.

Understood. I've had good luck with the re-pairing, so it might be worth a try.

Unfortunately, we have trouble in Chicago with using a cellphone without a hands-free solution.

Anyway, I hope you find a solution that works for you!

Just so I'm clear, what exactly is re-pairing? No details, but generally.
TIA

Remove the paired device... Re-pair the device.

Ideally, you should delete the bluetooth pairing from both the phone and the car before attempting to pair again.

Also, some other things to try to make bluetooth devices work:
  • This (re-pairing) is probably a good idea to do after updating the software in either the car or the phone.
  • It seems that having too many bluetooth devices paired in a phone may cause problems with all the other bluetooth devices. It's best to keep only the ones in the list you actually use (that is, remember to delete the old headset if you buy a new headset).
  • I suspect that you might get a degradation in quality if the phone's CPU is being used by running a lot of apps, so you could try closing all your apps and rebooting the phone to see if that helps at all.
  • This is probably not true, but just in case charging the phone causes interference, you could try unplugging the phone to see if it makes any difference.
  • You could try repositioning your phone in the car. I keep it in the padded ashtray, which I assume is close to the car's bluetooth antenna.

Is this just an Iphone thing? I'm actually amazed how good my Motorola Droid works with the Bluetooth in my EX. It's clear as can be.

Glad to hear that.
Mine sounds really clear in the vehicle, but the caller says I'm not that clear at times. Are your callers hearing you well too?

I have this problem as well, but it only started being REALLY bad recently.

I've had all phones including every iPhone made. They've all been fine, but very recently, say the past 2-weeks, people can't hear me anymore.

I don't want to re-pair because I'll have to re-do ALL my phone numbers again and that's a pain in the a**.

Any other suggestions?

Went to the dealer and the mick setting was too loud. It was turned down and much better before this it was not usable. It is back to sounding like crap again.. Will try to re-pair and keep the location of the phone the same.
