I recently bought a 2008 Armada LE 4X4. The manual says that chains should not be used with the 20" wheels that Nissan provides with the vehicle. This seems wrong. What's the purpose of a 4X4 if you can't fully utilize the ability of travelling in snow?

I live in Southern California and will need chains only a few times in the life of the vehicle, so purchasing 18" wheels and tires for those few occasions seems like a very expensive and wasteful purchase.

Anyone out there overcome this problem?

Thanks in advance.

I just took posession of 4x4 qx56 with the same mindset that I had a vehicle that could now ease traveling in snow in Big Bear. Then upon reading the owners manuel I too learned for the first time that neither chains or cables can go on the 275x60x20 tires. You think someone might have mentioned that at the dealer? The only alternative I know of is a product called Spider chains, and I have contacted that company to see if their product fits. This is a fixed, hub mounted system with an easy on, easy off over the tire tread mechanism that does the same as chains for traction. It's expensive-- $400-500, but may be the only solution short of going after the dealer.I do not want the 18" wheels, as the 20" were a selling point in the first place. I am in Granada Hills, and feel your pain! I will post what I learn about the Spider product fitment. Scott B
