2008 Altima won't shift into 6th gear

My 2008 Altima will not shift into 6th gear. While driving at 70 mph in automatic mode, I shift into manual mode, and show 5 on display. Tach gets higher, and so I manually shift into 6th gear, and Tach reading get back to a number where it was in automatic, but it still is actually in 5th gear.

Can anyone explain, what is going on here, and any remedy to repair this problem.
