Greetings!

I just purchased my first Nissan - a fully loaded 2008 Nissan Altima SL. Honestly, so far after having it for a week - I'm near in love with the thing. It's got all of the features that I've ever wanted in a car, aside from a few tiny little things. I'm a computer geek by profession and hobby, so I assume there should be a hack of sorts for just about all technology...

My issues? Little things - I was wondering if there was any way to enable inputting in to the navigation system while the car is in motion (my wife and I ride together all of the time - the passenger should be able to put stuff in while it's moving!). Additionally, I was wondering if there was any way to play DVDs through the CD changer? That may seem like a silly question as the CD changer likely is just a straight audio CD player (not DVD) - however I figure there's got to be some sort of DVD functionality in the car for navigational updates (unless they don't do that over DVDs anymore - or perhaps if they connect an external one?).

Any other ideas, hacks, modifications, etc. you might know of would be graciously accepted. Like I said - I LOVE my new toy, I just want to make the most of it..

Thanks!! ~Nathaniel

lol... oookkkkk, no, you can't play dvd's through the cd player, only .. umm... cd's

your nav system is based off of a dvd rom, but it doesn't play dvd video or dvd audio.

they have not yet made an adapter to watch video on the 07-08 nav screens, but when they do, it'll be at http://www.pac-audio.com

for the navigation hace, the only thing folks have come up with is wiring a sswitch and toggling the switch to trick the navigation system.. there's a thread here someone, its just hard to find...

You guys can go over to link removed and search for Navigation Hack! (Hardware Version) by gtcompscientist and all your answers are there. I don't remember seeing it here but I'm sure its looming around.

^ Indeed you are correct and my mistake for thinking there was some love between information sites. Good luck finding the infomation needed. I did a search here and couldn't find it and was only trying to help.

As previously stated, no - I didn't really expect any of those CD readers in that changer to also be DVD-ROMs, however with my inexperience with Nav systems, all I have to go on is reading that frequently they're updated via a DVD-ROM (which, seems to be missing from the car - hence my curiosity as to how it's updated).

if you press and hold the tilt button, the screen will fold down and expose the dvd-rom where the nav dvd is.

Ah!!!

See - very nice. I appreciate it. I did not know that... Thank you! :-)

Now - where's that hack to be able to watch DVDs on it so I can appease my kid? hehe

ur right, not a lot of love between the members of the two forums, but I def apppreciate your input.

the other forum has trigger happy mods that love blocking and taking down posts... the mods here are more user friendly..

also, this Altima forum is ~90% coupes, and the opposite holds true for the other altima forum.

In the end, I think you got that result from Vballer because we've had some trolls come to our forum from the other forum in the past... and to be honest, to come here just to post up "go to the other forum" rather than provide any real information won't win a lot of fans.

Again, I'm not trying to clown or anything, you just gotta look at it from everyone's perspective.

I know you, we've met a couple times (at the Stillen meet and at the meet @ In-N-out last week) and you're a pretty cool dude), but when folks see someone jump on here just to say "go to the other forum", well, you know how wel that would turn out if the same was down on the other forum... wouldn't be pretty!

OK, one last thing, stop procrstinating and pick up some of these illuminated kickplates! I had a thread in the other forum, just to gauge interst, but again....... trigger happy mods!
