I have an 07 G35 Sedan(rwd) that experienced a catastrophic engine failure that left a hole in the block. In searching for a replacement engine, the Hollander Interchange indicates a difference between the 07 and 08 VQ35HR engines making them not compatible. Does anyone know what the difference is. If it is a simple work around, it would greatly increase the pool of engines available to bring the car back to life.

Time for a new vehicle!
Why waste a lot of money and time on a nine year old vehicle?
There are lots of other expensive parts that can fail on an old vehicle besides just the engine.

Just my $.02

At 112k miles, I'm going to replace the engine with a salvage yard one and put another 112k + miles on it. I see where you are coming from but since I turn my own wrenches changing out the engine will not be a big deal. I got the blown engine out this weekend and found a 22K mile engine on car-part.com that should be here by the end of the week. I will replace any iffy components while I have it apart and if all goes well she'll be back on the road next week. One I'm done with installing the new engine I'll tear the old one down to see what grenaded inside it.

I'm always amazed at how quickly people will just want to trash a car that is in good shape because the engine blew. Even a new engine would be less than a new car and if you've maintained the car well then those other expensive items are less likely to break anytime soon. Good luck with the replacement and keep the good parts from the old engine. I'm sure there are some.
