In 17000 miles I have three problems: suspension thump when right turning, dash rattle and long cranking time during warm weather restarts. The "thump" and dash rattle are nuisance problems that I can live with. Since winter has settled in, the thump is gone and the starts are quick. When spring arrives I am going to ask the dealer to ref TSB NTB07-094 for a fuel pump modification. As for the other two problems, opening the dash panel or tampering with the suspension, can create more problems than it solves.

The "thump" you are hearing is what I had. Turning right at low speeds. I could reproduce it every time by driving slow (parking lot speeds) and turning my wheel to the right 1 1/4 turns. Last September Nissan replaced my Steering Joint Assembly and it resolved the issue. Every now and then I feel a weird little thump in my steering wheel but nothing like it was before.

I too have the dash rattle, but mine is in the passenger side air vent. I've been meaning to try and take the molding off so I can see if I can jam a piece of foam or paper in there to create pressure to stop the rattle. Right now I solve the rattle by whacking the passenger side dash a couple of times. It quiets it down for a little bit.

IMHO rattles [normal] caused by expansion/contraction of plastics and other materials due to temp & humidity variations.

Bet even a caddy rattles - know my head does.

To be honest I have never had a car that doesn't rattle at some time or other.

I think the steering clunk is a V idiosyncrasy.
