I'm at the end of my rope. Just put a head gasket on the car . Checked and checked again that the timing was right before replacing the cover. Got it back together and it fired up immediately. Let it run for 30+ minutes, ran great. Let it cool down and tried to start it again and it took 25-30 seconds of cranking to fire off. Let it run for ten minutes or so, turned it off, and now it won't start back up. Somebody tell me something.

Starting after a long crank is usually characteristic of a bum crank or cam sensor, you may have damaged the cam sensor while changing the gasket. You should also spray some Brakleen or Gumout down the barrel to make sure your fuel pump didn't quit. The maybe-bad news is, did you pull the fuel pump fuse and dry-crank the engine to build up oil pressure before starting it? If you didn't, there's a better than 50-50 chance that it jumped a tooth or two as soon as you started it. That wouldn't prevent it from running, but could make restarting it a real problem. If your scanner will do valve angles, see what the intake cam is reading when you crank it. It should read at or near 0, if it's off 2 degrees or more then it's likely it jumped.
