I bought an '07 Spec V back in May of this year and have been having some problems with the shift from 1-2 and 2-1. I'm not terribly familiar with mechanics but I'm trying to get a better idea of what's going on. I don't know if its the transmission, clutch, shifter or what, but a lot of times when I am shifting between 1st and 2nd the shifter won't transition smoothly and it makes almost like a grinding sound and a loud click that you can hear from outside the car. Its not quite like the grind you will get when the clutch isn't fully engage, but almost like somethings getting snagged during the shift. It usually only happens when I first start driving and after a couple shifts it gets smoother and eventually goes away. I'd like to get a better idea of what it might be before I go to the dealer, because like I said it probably won't be making the noise or having the problem by the time I get over there and I want to know how to explain myself a little better than I am right now because i know i sound like an idiot. Has anyone else noticed this problem with the '07 6sp mt or have an idea of what it could be? Thanks.

The B15 Specs were known for having loud transmissions when cold. Really any car I've driven has been a little extra notchy when started cold.

I hope you're not downshifting to first (you mentioned 2-1). First has no synchro, so it's not going to engage except at a stop or very slow roll without some force anyway.

thanks for the input. it just seems a little too loud and notchy to what i've experienced before, but this is my first close ration 6sp so i didn't know if that was customary. another reason for my concern is also because it's only between 1st and 2nd, 2nd to 3rd and up are nice and smooth from the get-go. as far as the 2-1 shift, i am talking about being stopped. i have two stop signs close to my house right when i leave out of the drive way so i stop frequently right off the bat and it is just as bad shifting back down to first at the stops as it is going 1-2. anyone else with a 2007 MT having similar problems?

Given that, I'm quite certain it's just a matter of it being cold. Keep an eye on it and if the issue starts to crop up when it's warm, take it in.

a little side note: when i leave the car in 2nd gear instead of neutral while it's parked it doesn't seem to be quite as bad on start up while cold.

YES. Mine started doing it after 1000 miles or so. I tried lubing up the bushings with red grease and it helped for about 200 miles. Right now, I just live with it until I read a TSB on it.

Its not just the spec-v ive got a 07' 2.0s with the 6-speed and my cars does it as well... i figured it was just cuz i beat the **** outa it but ive been noticing it alot more lately. i know exactly what your talking about and its not just the cold start for my because it will do it at lights as well... so mayb its not sometihng to do with the transmission so much as how the shifter itself is set up... but i honestly have no idea

has anyone brought their car into the dealership to get looked at yet? now that new prospector has said it's only gotten worse with his i'm starting to wonder if i shouldn't bring mine into the dealership and let them identify and fix the issue before it gets worse. only problem i see is that they are going to tell me its normal and not to worry about it.

I have the 07 spec v as well...for me it does it only when I first start the car in the morning when the transmission is cold. I think you shouldn't worry about it, and when you **** down to first gear, even at slow speeds it harder because they dont want you to accidentally put it in first, its for safety. But I dont think you should worry too much about it.

Since I work at a Nissan dealer, when the issue comes up on Assist I'll let you guys all know.

sounds like your clutch might need adjusting jbarb. could be related in some way to how the clutch was broken in since it doesnt do it as bad if you park the car in second. might just need a little adjusting somewhere in the shifting components.

Same thing happens with my 2011 Spec V. There was one incident where I shifted from 1st to 2nd where it felt harder than usual getting into gear, approached a stop sign and the shifter would not get out of 2nd. Turned off the car and got it into neutral. After that the shifter would NOT go into any other gears. Had my brothers try just to make sure I was not losing my mind. Had the car towed under Nissan warranty to the local Nissan dealership. Dealership inspected the vehicle and nothing was wrong...not to sure if the tow knocked something back into place. Hasn't happened again. (knock on wood)
