I have a 2007 Nissan Sentra. Ever since I've owned the vehicle, I've had problems with it. About 10 months after I bought it, I had to have the engine replaced. The Nissan dealership I took it to said that one of the cylinders went out and left metal shavings in the oil pan and they said they would have to swing the engine and replace it. Now I have a rack and pinion going out that's going to need repair, and Nissan is saying that since my original warranty is out (I didn't purchase an extended warranty), it's going to cost around $850 to repair it. Has anyone else had this type of problem? Do I have a lemon on my hands??? I previously had a 2004 Sentra SE-R and NEVER had a problem with it. Has Nissan's quality went down over the years??

Thanks.wccat22fan

No problems here, but only done 7K miles. There has been lots of discussion on noises that MAY be from the steering rack ....zerothread/285355Note that some owners who have had the rack replaced under warranty report the noise is still there. Others have had the steering column, engine mounts, etc., replaced instead. If your steering rack really has failed, it may be worthwhile requesting that Nissan cover it under a goodwill arrangement (assuming you are not too much over 36K miles). Even if it is turned down, it may be worth having something in writing at some point in the future. If you have to pay, at least the electronic rack seems to cost less to replace than traditional ones which were generally more like $1300 to replace.
