I recently took my Sentra in for servicing and decided to have the dealership look into an issue with my A/C and heater. The problem is the fuse for the blower keeps getting blown; sometimes a new fuse will last for a day, sometimes maybe a month. They told me that the blower motor was "dirty", which is causing it to work too hard and is tripping the fuse. Basically, they told me that it needed to be replaced and quoted me $860.00 to do so.

I'm pretty skeptical about this, I would expect the blower motor to last longer since the vehicle is only 3 1/2 years old with 80K miles... I've had vehicles as old as 15 years and never encountered a problem like this. They also told me the CV joints need to be replaced, but when I visually inspected them I couldn't see any leaks or cracks in the boots and I don't hear any of the usual noises that you would expect with a failing CV joint. I don't really trust them at this point and am thinking about taking it to one of the other dealerships for a second opinion, but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.

Thanks.

Don't know how mechanically minded you are but if the problem is with the blower, you could change it yourself. I think the blower itself should be around $150. Before you do that though, I would inspect all the wiring that is going to the blower and see if there are any frayed ends that could be causing it to short out and blow the fuse. Also check any terminals and wire harnesses that are associated with the blower motor. Take a look at your in-cabin filter too and see if it's clogged or really dirty, change that out if it hasn't been done recently.
