Hello.

I used to have a 2003 Toyota Corolla LE for quite some time. I could not afford an upgrade, however I still wanted to sort of a sound system. The stock speakers were "do-able" so I added an amplifier and a sub woofer. Now, I dont know much about cars or anything about the, simply only where the gas and brake is, so I had a guy install it for me. He tapped into the speakers in the back of my car and hooked that to the amplifier and that to the sub. It was great, except my girl did not like the sub, or at least that I could not control it from the inside of the car.

Eventually I got some money, and installed a new radio with an equalizer so now I could control how much my sub pumped out. So when she does not like it, I can turn it down, or turn it up.

Some time passed, and I got an upgrade. Yesterday I bought 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5S (NOT-BOSE). I really like the interior and I do not want to put that new radio that I had for the Corolla. Now I read some of the previous forums, and they talked about installing it, but I a little confused.

Do I have to put in the new radio in order for me to control the sub from inside of the car? Does the stock 2007 Altima radio have an equalizer? Or is tapping into the speakers from the abck my only option if I didnt want to change the console on the interior of the car?

I have a really good amp (that's what Best Buy say, obviously you can tell I am one of those that dont know jack sh*t). its something like it pumps out 1800Watts of output. I dont remember the brand, I can tell you that later if needed. And the sub, I have 1 12' Alpine Type R. Also, what do you think of the sub?

Thank you so much for you help in advance.

Welcome and congrats on your upgrade from a Corolla!

You can definitely tap into the rear speakers for a signal for your sub. To control (kill) the amp from within the car without changing your deck, you'd need probably just a switch (on the remote wire of the amp) to turn your amp on and off. If you're talking control for volume, then you need a gain knob for your amp wired to where you sit.

In terms of "equalizer" in a stock Altima, they have the usual controls for Bass, Treble, Fade, and Balance that you can use to turn the Bass up or down for the entire car, but with an aftermarket head unit you can specifically adjust the channel level of the subwoofer output.

I don't think going by the advertised power rating of an amp is a very good way to tell the caliber of the amp. Those can be very misleading (Peak vs RMS, the load it's rated with, etc)

Hope that helps.
