On most of my older cars there was a 4 gauge or whatever ground wire nad you could supplement that directly to the neg terminal on the battery instead of body ground. Well I called the dealer and asked them about the only 4 gauge wire and he said it was negative. Thank god I was smart enough to use an inline 120 amp fuse. When I hooked it up boom goes the fuse. It was the power wire. Anyone have a run down on the wires for the alternaror? I have a .pdf file for most of the car but dont do well with schematics. How does out alternator(they call generator) work. I have one positive wire, a harness plug and a black like 18 gauge black wire.

Sorry for taking so long to reply to this.

Generally there's a smaller black wire that attaches to a small screw on the body of the alternator casing. That's probably what your 18 gauge wire is. It's a chassis ground.
