Is this normal for the 2007 Maxima ?: When shifting from reverse into drive quickly, there is a dictinct lag between the time you give it gas and it really starts to move forward? This is very irratating and quite dangerous. Anyone had similar experience? Is there a cure or is this "just the way it is"?
Thanks

Are you moving backwards and slipping the shifter into drive without coming to a stop? I've had several vehicles, albeit non CVT, do something similar and some will immediately engage allowing an immediate change in direction. Although this isn't the optimum method since it puts a beating on the old trans, no matter what type it is.

I've driven the Alty with CVT quite a few times and don't recall any lag between reverse and drive. Hopefully some more peeps will chime in.

Yeah, if you are still rolling when you do it, then that is normal... otherwise it should operate just as if you were pulling away from a stop.

That sounds like it might be normal. There is a delay built into the shift logic to prevent damage and prolong the life of the transmission.

If you are not fully stopped or in a fast idle condition the delay might be longer as the parts of the transmission come up to speed.

If it were my car I would take it to a Nissan dealer for an oil change and ask them to take it around the block and see what one of their senior techs thinks of it. I know as far as Infiniti goes I can typically get in the car and within 1/2 a mile or not tell you with some degree of certainty whether the operation is normal or requires some looking into.

Great, Steve!. I'm glad you jumped in on this one as I have had no experience with CVT.
