We were discussing options for installing an Ipod in a M45 without the DVD player (and RCA audio inputs).

I did get all of the parts listed in the previous post installed this week. I found that the input adapter PAC AAI-NIS2 and the Peripheral PXNI are the same product, put out by 2 different companies. They have identical instruction installation sheets with different logos.

I have the stock Sirius tuner, and needed an input adapter that would work with the Siruis tuner. Both the PAC and Peripheral are supposed to work. When we were installing the input adapter, we couldn't get it to switch on and pass audio through the stereo. We found an updated instruction sheet for the installation on their website, and there was a new note: the input adapter will not switch on if the Sirius/XM signal is not present. We had been installing it while in a stereo shop bay, and the Sirius signal was not getting into the building. When we pulled the car outside, the Sirius signal was picked up, and then it triggered the input adapter to pass on the Ipod signal properly.

When I drive around in my area, and pull into my parking garage at work, I lose the Sirus signal. I'm not sure if my Ipod signal will cut out in this circumstance yet.

So far, it's working great and sounds fantastic.

Nice installation/setup. How difficult was the installation? Always fear dash rattles after wiring challenges, etc.

Also, assume from the previous posting that nothing is displayed on the screen. I'll read the posts again but how does the system "function"?

Normally, you toggle the radio button to switch between radio, Sat., etc. Do you just select Sat. and if turn on IPOD then overrides Sat.?

I had my installer do the work at http://www.earmarkcaraudio.com/ . It took him about 2 hours for everything. No rattles. They do good work and solder everything.

Nothing is displayed on the dash's stereo screen. You control the Ipod from the Ipod itself to pick songs, navigate, etc. I had him wire the Ipod so that it goes into pause mode when the car is turned off. It's a fuction of the PIE Universal Ipod Adapter.

To use the input adapter, you select preset B1 on the stereo, and that enables the input from the Ipod. There is another input available at B2, but I don't have anything on that input. A1-A6, B3-B6, and C1-C6 are left as usable presets on the stereo for your favorite FM/AM/Sirius preset stations. It's working great, and I really like the way the Ipod is mounted since it's easy to reach and see next to the stereo. And the Dice craddle holds it perfectly, so that the Ipod slides in/out of the craddle without having to mess with any wires.

Jay, this install looks very nice. I am glad to hear that the sound quality is good as I am having an install done on my 2007 M35 today. Would you say the sound quality has any loss what so ever to listening to the Ipod with your earbuds? I am very anxious about getting mine done because I am a bit disappointed in the sound of the XM broadcasts.

I took a little different route than you did and will post pics for everyone when I get a chance. I wanted the Ipod itself hidden away so that I did not have to constantly take it out of the car so thieves would not see it. I used the PAC AAI-NIS2 that you used so that I could also maintain the XM since I do like the availability of the many different stations and also have the Ipod. I picked the Harman Kardon Drive and Play 2 to attach to the PAC unit whereby I can place the Ipod in the glovebox to be constantly charging and be out of the way. With this kit, it allowed me to place a wireless remote to control the Ipod near the radio controls and a visual readout that mimics the display of the Ipod on the center cosole. I sure hope I am as pleased with this as you are with our setup. Thanks for your post and the pictures. It was very helpful.

I don't notice any sound loss. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of your installation. I thought about using the Drive and Play also.

are you able to play video thru the iPod? i'm about half way as your setup..... i was able to move the rear RCAs into the armrest and able to play it thru the AUX input and keep my ipod out of sight.only draw back is that the text will not show on the screen and i have no control of iPod (except for on the ipod it self).

now i just need to find someone who can do the HACK where i can watch video while in motion.

The cradle has video output, but I can't use it. I have seen other brands of cars that can use a module to allow you to use the navigation screen with a video input, but I don't have any such module in my car.

I have been looking for someone who has installed aux audio input that interface with the stock radio/sound system without cutting up the wiring harnes. It looks like you have been able to do that. I have what appears to be the same car and options. I want to have a way to input audio from a Garmin 350 so I can listen to my books on tape without having to record them onto a CD. Do you think the interface unit you used will accomplish this? Thanks for your advise.
