I suspect that changing the differential gearing would be easier, although it would kill your low end torque. You sort of get used to it after a while. The only justification I can think of is that they were trying to keep the engine in a "sweet spot" for emissions. I'd be curious to see how much better highway MPG would be with a taller top gear.
The '10 G has a 7 speed A/T... must shift more than it runs!
