Hey guys! I have about 130k miles on my 2007 m35x and just recently started hearing a very loud clanking noise when slowing down once i get under 10mph. I'm not quite sure if the noise is coming from the drivers side front, or maybe even under the car.

The noise is a very loud clank that happens just about every other second. It doesn't make the noise every single time, and it usually doesn't happen during acceleration, but it usually occurs when I'm coming to a stop. Once my car gets below 10mph and start making the noise, it'll continue making the noise even if i let go of the brake, and braking again does not get rid of the noise.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Are there any specific steps i can take to help me diagnose the issue? Thanks for the help!

Maybe u joint or something like that? Is it only when the car is in motion? Or once you stop it keeps clanking?

Sounds to me like you have a bad front driveshaft.

Thanks for the help guys! I just took a look at the front driveshaft, and the U joint is completely shot. I know that the U joints are not serviceable for our cars and that a new front drive shaft needs to go in, but how hard is it to do it myself?

They're a bear. The cat needs to be removed on that side in order to slide the shaft out. Even on a lift they're no fun. Semper Fi, BTW.
