My inner left front cv axle recently busted and splashed grease everywhere.

I haven't been able to find anything in this forum for the front left cv axle. I've been trying to look online for a replacement and haven't been able to find anything. I've found front right and both rear cv axle's. are they not available for my car?

I've only found boot replacement kits for the front left axle. does anyone know how hard it is to re-grease and replace the boots on the axle? I'm def a DIY'er and im' up for the job unless i'm going to be at a complete loss for doing it myself.

you're looking for something on ebay with a brand name ARC remanufacturing by a seller name trueblueparts. do not waste your time and money to buy just the sleeve because you still have to take the whole part out to replace. job is not hard and there are some instructions on g35driver that users posted. it was on a g35 but the process and tricks are the same.

@GetBiz - So far no issues. I just ordered for the Front Passenger side also to get that out of the way since that side was also starting to crack

To remove the OEM axle nut its a 32mm but the eBay replacement nut is larger. What size axle nut did you end up using to install the replacement ? I've gone up to 34mm and still too small by one size (i'm assuming). I'll have to go back to Autozone for a 35mm and hope that'll work.

And this shaft still fits in the hub? Splines match and all?
Usually the threads on the nut end are a smaller OD than the parent shaft, and the splines match the shaft diameter. Just curious why this would be that different.

from the initial install, it all fit perfectly. Splines and all. It's only the axle nut which is larger on the replacement axle. I tested the OEM nut on the replacement axle and it fits fine. the replacement is just fatter (if that makes sense)

OK, gotcha. Makes sense. So the inner diameter of both nuts is the same. All the axle nuts I have dealt with have been 32mm. Idk if these guys made it thicker to compensate for any material deficiencies. I'd use OEM and call it a day.
You deserve a break from this axle madness,

i used the nuts that came with the part. i have a set of big impact socket that i bought from HF that can unzip this nut with ease. I do not recall the size.

Finally got 36mm axle nut which is a direct fit. won't have a chance to finish the install today but will get to it tomorrow. The front passenger should be delivered by Thurs and that should be done same day also.... then all done with CV axles

midnight - when you replace your driver axle, how hard was it to pull it out of the transmission. I know there are 6 10mm nuts holding it in. any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks

i threw in the towel. i was able to get 4 out of the 6 while the remaining two are about to be rounded if I keep trying. fuking Hell. also the dam ball joint was moving so I couldn't get it off to replace with the one that i bought - must be my lucky day because the "new" one was spinning too. oh well, time to go to my Indy so he/his crew can change the front left cv axle.

Sorry Cruzad3r - just saw your reply. It was not easy. The position itself made it difficult to get anything but a 10mm closed wrench in there. I did try using the open and I did strip 2 of the bolts myself (happens to me a lot :chuckle: ) so I had to use a hammer and chizel to reverse it out of the axle. It did take some PB Blaster and a lot of patience. after a couple of hours both bolts finally came out. I did order new bolts from the dealership because i didn't want to use the same old bolts and have one of those strip on me. But I wouldn't it's too difficult just takes some time (extra if you strip the bolts) if you have it. I am not sure if there is a skinny 10mm deep socket that would fit in there since the space is extremely limited down there.

Was your indy able to get it off?

OMG - that's what my dad was going to do. like you said, the space is tight and trying to get these "b!tches" off are near impossible. i think my Indy will use an air gun with 5MM hex head to zap it off. once you break away the loctite glue, it's easy to unscrew them. my appointment is this Friday, i will report back on the results. HOpefully they can do it within the 1-1.5 hrs they quoted me.

Yeah. the location of the bolts is ridiculous and the fitment of those bolts and the size of the axle made it near impossible. But once you break the bolt loose they come right off and the axle detaches directly off the transmission. Hopefully they can remove it in that time. they probably have a trick to remove bolts like that from tricky places. Good luck. Let us know how it goes

Hey guys, just wanted to open this post back up to ask how those ARC axles have treated you all. I'm in need of the front driver side at the moment and so far I have always used OEM parts but thats getting a bit pricey since i just had to replace a couple wheel bearings. If anyone could give some quick feedback on these axles that would be great!

I haven't had any issues with them since the install. Both boots are holding up good. I have no complaints. I would use them again if I ever need to.

And for the Driver side axle.... good luck. That was my pain point for the removal. Be careful removing the bolts on that side. You have very little room to work with so you have to be precise when you start to loosen those pesky bolts. Use lots and lots of PB Blaster prior to removing, it will help. good luck

Awesome man! Ill get one ordered then. And yeah I've already given it a look, its ridiculous how little room you have, especially compared to all the Toyota/Lexus that i work on daily lol. Going to soak those bolts a day or two before I replace the axle just for good measure. Good thing I have a lift and lots of tools. I was actually able to fenegle a long 3/8 extension and wobble socket in there just to see if that would work. It will probably still be a pain in the rear, but oh well. Thanks for your feedback on the axle though, I'm always a little weary about aftermarket parts but I really don't want to cough up all that extra cash for an OEM axle.
