2007 M35/M45 Anyone tried to upgrade stereo system?

I would like to upgrade from standard system with new amp and speakers, looks like a change in head unit would be a major pain/expense. Has anyone had problems or successes with this, and where? I don't have anyone locally who has worked on a 2005-2007 model and would prefer someone with some experience.

Dont even bother trying to change the receiver/head unit. I called a place around here and they sort of smirked when I suggested the idea. The amount of money it would cost to get it to work with the digiwheel would be absurd.

Which Bose system do you have? I have the 8 speaker in my 06 m35x and im just going to add a JL 8w7 sub with amp. I suggest you start out doing the same. Speakers you can do as well. I think the M takes 6 1/2" speakers.

In the future there will probably be some kind of M-specific receiver upgrade (im sure it'll also cost a ton) but right now it would be a totally custom job. Most shops probably wont even know how to do it. The one that does pull it off will charge you thousands.
