I've has my 2007 M-35 for about 3 weeks, and I'm getting about 13.7 MPG. I brought it to the dealer and they told me there's nothing they can do. I never would have bought a car with such poor gas mileage, considering the price of gas. I would appreciate any advice, suggestion, anything at all I can do to improve my mileage

Thanks

I took delivery of my '07 M35X in August and have been as low as 18.5 and as high as 21, depending in part on whether or not I have Premium fuel in the car. But noting in the 13 range.... Doesn't sound right unless you are driving very hard...

I would say something is wrong. While I do more highway miles than stop and go, I was getting 19.5 until I changed to synthetic oil. Now I am getting 21 - 22. I only have 4k on the odo.

I have a 06 M35x and I average about 19 MPG combined city and highway, 70% highway. Car has 22k miles. I will try synthetic oil next change.

This sounds unusually low. How are you doing the measurements? If this is what the car is reporting, then it seems a lot lower than it should - depending on your driving habits. Check to make sure that the reading is indeed accurate (doing a fill-up and noting the miles, etc. - the old-fashioned way! )

With a mixed 70%/30% highway/city driving, you should be able to get near 17 to 18 mpg pretty easily - even with the occasional lead-foot start outs from a stop! But, if you have lots of stop and go stuff, then the mileage will drop a bit - perhaps as low as 14mpg average.

In my 2003 M45, I tend to average about 16 to 17mpg with 70/30, but this is the V-8, so you should get about 1mpg better than that (or so).

In your shoes, I'd continue to pester the dealer to check the car out thoroughly and see what is going on.

I have the M35 RWD and I get around 22 for highway and 18 for local. I'm switching to regular 87 octane to see if it's going to drop significantly.

you guys are getting pretty good mpg considering you have the AWD version. I'm still breaking in the car--does it get better with time?

A little bit ... but I would not expect it to be more than 1 or 1.5 mpg after some miles.

On my 2003 M45, it went from about 15-17 to about 16-18 mpg after 5k to 10k miles (as I recall) ... depending on winter months and modified gasoline, etc.

I have 2K miles on my M35x. Ave to-date was 17-18; city/suburban driving. Straight highway last week resetting and measuring via car computer was 23.9. A/C was on and ave speed was 70-80 mph. If original poster is using only the in-car computer, reset it on-screen and double check manually between fill-ups; you will want to rule out the system being the problem before the dealer brings it up. Good luck.

Sounds like there might be a problem. I am averaging 19.25 MPG, about 60% highway, 40% local. Best I ever got was 22.72 MPG on a trip to North Carolina, worst I ever got is 16.76 MPG. These figures are from using a program, not the onboard fuel economy display.

I've had my '07 m35x for about 6 months now. I average 19-21.5 per gallon. The higher # on Highway and lower end in Nashville driving.YOur numbers are way way too low. I would get it checked out immediately.

I'm only getting 13.5mpg after 1 week and 300 miles.. I was assuming this was just the break in period..........from what you are all saying I am wrong and 13.5 isn't correct even for the break in period. Granted the majority has been local not highway.

OK the 2nd tank of gas was much much worse, I got 11.7 mpg. Although I did notice that my rear tires had 34psi. Yes I know low psi can cause reducced mpg but c'mon.

These numbers are way too low ... assuming that you are not doing stop and go driving only, you should be seeing numbers better than that.

The 34 psi is not low enough to impact this.

Something is awry with your car, I think!

Spoke to the dealer and they said 11-13 mpg not is NOT abnormal, for stop and go which is all I have done for the most part. But STILL.

I live in Vancouver, BC Canada and my 07 M35x also has been getting really low mpgs as well.

In my last few fill ups ive been avging around 14mpg, keeping in mind the car is only 1,000 clicks in but ive been driving very conservatively.

This is mostly city driving, but 14mpg is SUV standards. I'm guessing that it being the wintertime with the heat constantly up doesn't help either.

Any updates from you guys in the same boat?

Thanks!

Just bought an 07 M35x for my wife. Absolutely love the car except for the mileage. Don't get me wrong, I would still chose it over the alternatives...I did a lot of comparing. On the 150 mile trip back from the purchase, my wife was driving in the 65-68 mph range, flat terrain (she always drives slow), I thought this would be a great time to check highway mpg under ideal conditions. After resetting the computer, mileage was consistently in the 21 - 23 mpg range. Average for the trip was 21.5. I can live with it, just wanting to make sure its normal. Again, love the car, just can't imagine why Infiniti doesn't add another gear. At first, I kept looking for an overdrive switch that I thought must be turned off. Thanks in advance for any help for the newb!

First of all wait till you put at least 1500-2000 miles on it. New engine is tight so it uses up a little more gas. Also, don't expect anything over 16-17 mpg anyway.I have 2006 m35x and I drive it pretty hard so I get 15mpg average. Mostly city driving though.

Come on guys; anyone who buys an M w/out full knowledge of the &%$$#*#@! gas mileage is either a fool and/or deaf, dumb and blind. My M (37 K) gets about 12-14 mpg in town only w/a very, very light foot. On the other hand I can get around 27 mpg @ 55mph and 24.5 @ 65 mph on the highway; not so bad. I always use 91-92 octane.

Come on now, luxury/performance costs. You want mileage get a Yaris.

Even with AWD 11-13 Mpg something is wrong, i drive aggressively when in my 35x and i still average better than 13 mpg, Heck even My Land rovers that weight 6000lb/s get better than 13 mixed driving. If the Dealer says 11-13 is not "Abnormal" might as well go buy a Escalade because even that can get better mpg than 11-13.

Here's another data point. I use my M35 sport for commuting back and forth to work and here in the San Fran bay area that means mostly stop and go freeway traffic. Since I reset my trip computer last, which was about 1200 miles ago, my average speed was about 29 MPH and fuel consumption is 16.9 MPG. I have put 35k miles on the car and the fuel consumption has been in that range the entire time that I have owned it.

So depending on the conditions that you drive in your results may not be totally unexpected.

This last post is perfectly consistent with the results on my M45 - see my earlier posts for the numbers.

I have a 2007 M35X purchased in March 07' When I retired 4/30/08, I had been driving 50 miles a day round trip to work and averaging 18.5 mpg. When I started driving around the neighborhood following retirement, my mileage quickly dropped to 14.5 mpg. I took the car in and had it checked, They told me this was normal.
