I don't know the answer to this question, but I did want to mention that the buttons on the non-nav version of the control center (not sure what this is called, but it's the set of controls right below the screen) are actually different to those in the Nav version. There are several more buttons in the nav version of the car. So if this is possible, it would require some hardware changes other than the nav software module.
If you can't do that one and have to get an external nav, I would highly recommend the Garmin C550. Prior to this car I had that and it was fantastic and probably more intuitive to use than the built in one in the G35 (don't get me wrong, I think the integrated one is good, but this one was better). It has the nav traffic just like the g35 navi system does (except it's fm based instead of xm based - but both come from the same source - navtech, as far as I know). It has a touch screen and is extremely intuitive.
Naturally you lose out on the very nice integration, but it is still very convenient.
