Hello all. I am about to enter the Infiniti club. Having owned my last two cars under the BMW nameplate I'm looking forward to the change. Keeps it interesting.

I know the '07 G35 is winding down. And, my understanding is the '08 version has minor changes -- however, that includes iPod integration, and satellite radio as standard plus something called Drive Audio something or other - no idea what that is. Otherwise another model that I'm not interested in.

Is it worth waiting -- and it's hard to find the date -- I guess I've read September. Or, is it worth just jumping in with the '07 based upon what dealers have left?

Open to opinions....Thanks.

Mark

Hi Mark,

I just joined and I am in the same boat as you. I am going to purchase a G35 and get rid of my wife's Acura TL '05. I think I may wait as we will probably drive the car for two or three years and I don't want to have an '07 model to get rid of at that point in time.

If you find out anything more accurate than just September let me know as I would like to find out as well. Good luck with your purchase.

Also, do you or anyone else no what a typical discount is from a dealer on a new G35. I always pay about 250 to 500 over invoice for most of my vehicles with the exception being on a new BMW 530 xi that was purchased at 1000 over invoice. I would prefer to get the Infiniti over another Acura so I need some sort of starting point to work with at the dealership when negotiating.

Thanks...

I believe the 08 models are coming in September. Pretty much the changes are standard XM radio, iPod integration (that is very well done), and Driver's Audio Stage. If you have an iPod, I would definitely wait for the iPod integration and I've heard that the added audio stage is very nice. The set back to all of this is the price difference. You can get pretty good deals on the 07s right now since the dealerships are trying to get them out. I would personally wait for the 08 models though for the extra stuff. If the iPod integration and upgraded sound system doesn't really matter a lot to you and price does... then 07 definitely.

@ Gimli G35: The G37 coupe is being released this upcoming week at most dealerships in America I believe. I will be getting mine August 21st.

Thanks for the good information. I am tempted given I do like to use my iPod on occassion and it would be nice to control it through the vehicle rather than digging around for it between the seats looking for the menu buttons (!)

Wasn't sure what audio stage is but I assume it is some type of enhancement to the audio system.

I suppose if I can get a great deal on the '07 it might make sense to take the plunge -- since I'll lease it's not too big of a deal since the residual might be slightly less than a '08 but maybe made up for based upon the deal and then some. I would assume the '08's when they arrive the dealer won't be quite as aggressive but then again it's not a major redesign or new like the G37.

By the way, congrats on that and enjoy -- great looking coupe!

Hi Mark:

My understanding of Audio Stage is that it gives you a setting on the stereo that you can turn on and off which if you're driving alone, in essence gives the effect of balancing the sound so that the center of the stereo is at the driver's position as opposed to the middle of the car. So this enhances the sound.

For leases, because the residual value of the '08 may be higher than the residual value of an '07 if you purchase them in the same year within a month or two of each other, it's possible that the lease will actually be lower on the '08. However, my experience is that the car manufacturers financing arms pretty much 'manufacture' their residual values based on how badly they want to move that particular car that month, so the above logic may not apply since they want to move the '07s.

In my case, I got a fully loaded G35x in May and paid $38300. I can't remember how close that was to invoice, but what I did was get the Edmunds TMV (true market value) and show that to the dealer, and he beat that by $500. If I recall, it was within a few hundred of invoice. Price right now should be better given the timing.

Regards,Tamir
