Hey all, just joined the forum. So here's my Q. A week after I bought it, I dropped a K&N, and then changed the muffler. With that said, I love the truck, but I have to be honest, I want more power and Better gas mileage! I'm getting like 15, 16 if there's more than just a few miles on the highway. What else can I do? I know the nissan superchargers only add like 35 ponies, plus they void the warranty (not to mention that that would cost what, at least 2 g's). Those electric superchargers sound cool but I can't believe they actually add 15-30 ponies. And speaking of disbelief, has anyone out there actually tried/built one of those atomizer things -- now I love gadgets, but when I saw that even I said, "Oh hell no." Any thoughts or experiences will be appreciated, plus I will let you all know what happens if I try anything, thanks

Atomizer is a myth, it's just a trinket to get you to waste your money. If you want more power then things to look at would be:

-full intake system (search further down the theads in this forum for a dyno that F5 Fujita did on an '06 making some pretty decent power!)-full exhaust system (free up the flow of exhaust in the motor to make room for fresher air)-Grounding system, cars today can always use more grounds. Will help gasmile too because you'll utilize the full spark to ignite the fuel.

As far as gas mileage goes, few little things to do:-check your tire pressure, make sure it's spot on and maybe add 1-2psi, to help keep your rolling resistance down. You'd be surprised how much only 3psi down on tire pressure can affect your gas mileage.-Stay on top of maintainence, can't say it enough.-Keep your foot out of it

um... superchargers? first off, there is only one available for the vq40 (stillen) and i've seen a dyno video. it dynos with a 100whp gain over stock with no other changes besides the supercharger kit.

second off, ditch the k&n. get an oil-less filter. oil can (and likely will) clog or gum up your maf or sensors.

third, 15-16mpg is pathetic. if the truck isn't broken in yet that is probably why. mine was worse before i passed that first oil change mark. btw, i have an se 4x4 and i've never gotten less than 17mpg on a tank. i usually average between 18 and 20 with mixed driving.

You're not gonna find any mileage miracles and more power plus improved mileage is kind of contradictory, because if you actually USE the increased power, you're burning more fuel.

As for mileage, the increased tire pressure will help...like 40psi on the highway. Not sure if there's a catback system available yet, but you might look for one of those to reduce back pressure and help with exhaust flow.

Aside from that, don't haul any extra weight in the truck and don't mash the gas on accelleration. Accellerate slowly and drive the speed limits - that's the best thing you can do for mileage. Beyond that 15-16 is about all you can really expect from a 2.5 ton truck with a 261hp 4.0 engine.

Thanks for the advice. A couple things though, what is an oil-less filter? To my knowledge a gauze filter still has to be oiled up. Secondly, after being so desperate to improve my mileage, I bought a turbonator. It actually seems to be working.... I clocked my pre-turbonator highway high at 16.8, I have post hit 21.5, just in case anyone is interested. One final question: where does the fuel line input into the manifold/ fuel injectors before combustion -- I bought another toy that I will tell all about once installed, whether it works or not.

There really isn't much you can do to get better milage and add HP, since the fact is to get HP and torqe your going to mod the engine to take in more fuel.

Just like the Dano said "Keep your foot out of it!" Thats the best along with the tire pressure. I suppose to enhance the mileage is to do a little wieght reduction like little tires and rims, take the bed off the truck and other nonsense.

BURN IT UP BABE! Towing my boat on flat south florida highways gets about 13.9-14.5 depending on speed. The boat and trailer is a bit under the limits at 4200lbs loaded. A bit better then my buddies 2500HD chevy with a 390Ci. That thing runs in the 7's with the same size boat on the same road.

For a 4.0 with out of the box power and torque the truck is actually fairly efficient. If you want 30mpg? Get a 4 cylinder altima.
