quick question, I'm new here, coming over from the nissanclub page, i have a 2007 cvt alti (3.5), and i know if you spin your tires the CVT likes to stay up high on the rpm's for a few seconds, but today i came out of a stop sign and tried to come out a bit too fast, i did a full out burnout by accident (though it was fun), but shouldn't the traction control or VDC step in and stop your tires from spinning when it's on? Or is nissan's TC just more driver friendly than my old GM's?

i have a 2008 3.5se Altima Coupe with CVT and sometimes if i turn the corner a little fast the traction control will kick in and the car will start hesitating and it'll say "slip" on the speedometer. only time i really got any smoke or any burn out was when i turned off the traction control. turn off the traction control, pull up the "E" brake and floor the gas and it'll smoke it up like crazy..... which is why i need new tires or rotate my tires lol but the traction control works good and doesn't really let it slip. it's a lot better then my dad's E500 Mercedes-Benz, i was messing around with it last week and it'll do almost a full smoke up the whole street burn out with the traction control on. with traction control off, its all over the road.... E class doesn't have that great traction

yea your vdc should kick in and stop your wheels from spinning. If you can do a full fledged burnout from a stoplight, and you didnt press any buttons first, you either have a problem or your car just didnt come with traction control. Which i dont think they make any of these cars without traction control.

The VDC sometimes takes a sec to kick in, you can usually get a good full rotation of the wheels and some squeal before it takes over, it's just a little laggy if you surprise the computer..if you're sitting there making smoky burnouts with the VDC on then you have a problem...otherwise, you're just surprising the computer. I purposely do it at work sometimes haha...the 3.5 has a good amount of power

the VDC on my 3.5 SE coupe works by retarding the engine and cutting the power when the front wheels spins too much. The front wheels will spin quite a bit before the VDC kicks in.

This is different than Chryler products whereby the traction control kicks in with the brakes coming on when the wheels spins too much. The traction control on this system kicks in much earlier.

I wonder how much abuse CVT's can take before the belt snaps...

ME TOO!!! i heard that the artisan turbo that came out was only for the 6 speed but they were working on making one for CVT (someone in another thread said before). so i hope thats true, i hope CVT can handle a lot of power

Don't worry about that Belt........ Have you seen it yet ? It's not like a fan belt or cerpentine Belt. Its' G@% D@*^ rugged....... with many layers. It's not gonna break easy.

If you've ever seen broken axles, driveshafts, ring gears, crank shafts, etc. that belt starts to look pretty weak.

So let me get this straight. Today, I was starting off somewhat quickly and slipped on some gravel before taking off. I didn't notice the SLIP light blinking, but it may have just slipped for a split second before it could light up. Once I got up to 60 mph, the engine was still revved at 5k and not slowing down. After a few seconds it did slowly come back down.

I just want to make sure this is normal behavior, or at least that I'm not the only one seeing this.
