Well, my altime (2007 3.5L) is at about 1300 miles. When stop at the red light or idling, I can feel slight vibration. No vibration when rpm over 1000 or accelerating. Its idle rpm is about 500-550. Is that normal? The highest octane gas here is 91. Would it help? Any suggested additives that would help?

I took it to dealer to check out. They found no problems.

Plz reply!

Thanks

You know, I noticed the same problem in my 2.5SL, its this slightly unnerving vibration that somehow doesn't feel right? I guess its just a natural thing for the Altima because I've noticed this from day one.

I dont know why but mine does the same thing especially at stops. Also it makes a weird noise when you cold start it, like a grinding sort of, its very displeasing.

There is not a V-6 or 4-cyl made that does not exhibit a slight vibration at idle. That is the nature of the beast. V-8's are pretty much vibration free though due to their balanced cylinder offsets and mass.

If you are new to V-6's or I-4's you will get use to it in no time. Enjoy your Nissan jewel. They are the best engines going.

Your 3.5 should idle at about 750rpm. My 3.5 has no vibration a idle, it's very smooth and quiet as is a hallmark of the VQ. Also the owners manual(section 9) recommends 91 AKI octane and NOT the use any fuel additives. One of our techs said the higher the octane the smoother the idle. I use mid grade 89, everythinds fine. I do believe I would have increased performance with higher octane, but cost vs. perf, and right now cost wins. Jess

BTW there are 3 natually balanced engines in the world; in-line 6, flat 6, and V-12. All other engines must use some sort of balance shaft to oppose the inherent vibrations. Jess

Interesting comment.I've never heard of a V-8 with a balance shaft. Do they have them?

As for vibrations, my Sentra and Altima (both 2.5's) do vibrate slightly at idle, especially with the air turned on. I've never been concerned. My Pathfinder however (3.5) is vibration free.

The easy answer is yes, but there's more. Check this out from our friends at Wiki...

...you had to ask.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have been experiencing this.

my car generally idles at 600rpm when sitting at a light or parked the rpms will briefly dip perhaps 50rpm or so and a slight vibration or studder occurs and it returns to normal idle.

What is this?

They will likely tell you we are unable to replicate the problem.. Make sure you are in the car and it is able to do it with the technician present and clearly point it out.

Be persistent as well.

Let us know if anything conclusive results.

Thanks
