I’m not very knowledgeable about either of these cars and I’m leaning towards the 2008 G37. However, I saw a sweet 350Z convertible the other day and now I am thinking about this car.

Has anyone else considered this? I know the 350Z doesn’t have much of a back seat, if any, but neither does the G37 from a practicality standpoint. I know the G37 has more luxury touches, but for about the same price tag, you can get similar performance (speed and handling) and a convertible as well if you go with the Z.

What am I missing here?

The 350Z has no rear seat, at all. Smaller people can fit in the back seat of the G. I fit in, albeit very uncomfortably and I am 6'2". I am pretty sure the G37 will outperform the 350Z convertible in every aspect, including fuel economy. Convertibles are cool and all, but they are mighty fat and not at all practical, especially if you are in an area that has cold winters.

Me personally, unless you trade-in the CL type S, I would get the 350Z convertible. That way, you have a fun, warm weather car and a nice Acura for the rest of the times. Just make sure you keep the convertible in the garage.

I have a winter unit so that’s not the problem. I guess I don’t like the fact that the 350Z only has two seats though. I wasn’t aware of that. I don’t use my daily commuter for family all that much. Plus my two children look forward to stepping into a clean car with a hypo engine because mom drives a minivan!

Ask yourself how often you'd use to convertible. If you like driving with the top down most of the time, might as well get the convertible. If you have some use for back seats... get the G37.

If you're buying... i'd get the G37. Resale value is likely better than a model which is soon to be replaced.

I have a convertible and I have to say that I rarely use it. Most of the time I either have too much crap in the trunk or it's too hot outside, or the gf bishez that her hair gets messed up...

Hmm... it all depends on what you're mainly looking for. Infiniti definitely wins in the luxury department. The only really appealing thing about the 350Z is that it's a convertible. Other than that, I would get a G37.

I also have two children with mom driving a minivan. I chose the G37 mainly because of the 2+2 feature, even though it is cramped, it's still a seat for all four of us for the very few times we will all ride together!

I was seriously considering the 350z since I currently have a 300zx tt, however, several factors led me to choose the G37.

1. I have a 7-year-old, so whenever my wife and kid rode my car (not too often, thankfully), my son would have to sit on her lap.2. I'm 38 years old and need a little luxury in my life without giving up the boy racer in me. The G obviously is a more comfortable ride.3. I live in Korea, so we have four distinct seasons. So having a convertible would be nice only 4 or 5 months out of the year.4. No Nissan dealers or service centers here, so I would have to purchase gray market cars (which is not too bad) and deal with my own service issues (could be highly problematic).5. The Nissan's interior is too damn sparse. No navi support (at least here in Korea) and cheap plastic all around.

For me, the best choice was the G.
