Start by taking a look at what KBB/NADA/Edmunds gives for price ranges for this particular vehicle, condition, and mileage for a private seller.

As a general rule of thumb, most valuation tools will limit price adjustments for mileage to $2000 either way.

This year I bought a 2006 350Z with under 17,000 miles and did pay a larger premium because a pre-purchase inspection showed the bottom to be like new. The Nissan mechanic even brought us out to see the car on the lift. The previous owner explained the car had only been out in the rain twice.

If you plan on driving the car, you can drive it a lot and still retain the $2000 maximum bump in valuation.

If you are thinking about making it a garage queen for it upside potential, I doubt its collector potential will reward you.

As for reliability, the car is fantastic with the exception of abnormal tire wear because you cannot rotate the tires because of differing tire sizes front/rear and unidirectional treads. This tends to lead to feathering on the front tires leading to noise.

Asymmetric tread patterned tires are your friend. ;) At least you can swap left to right. I dumped Bridgestone's RE970AS because of the unidirectional pattern and awful treadwear cdue to the design. The noise and the drop in performance were awful, not to mention they aren't nearly as good in light snow as the 960AS was.

As for the original post, keep in mind that any KBB or NADA valuation is based on the car, it's trim, mileage (to an extent) and it's condition. The original owner may think that the cat-back exhaust, suspension modifications and cold-air intake warrant a few extra dollars and you might too - but it doesn't make a difference to KBB/NADA. Consequently, the bank won't care either when it comes time to get a loan.

Thank you for the information. Good to consider. I also wonder about AC seals and the tires. It also has the original battery.
I apologize that I have not responded. Off the grid this past week. I do have a few pics on the cell phone. I will be making time to see the car this next week and will take a few better pics.

From one comment, it may not be the car to keep new and expect it to keep its value. I would be currious as to how many Zs are avalable in this type of condition? I also have to consider garrage space.

The asking price is 15K. My initial thought was a very good price. I am trying to confirm.

I would think a price of $15k would be great for this car. As for how many are there to be found - not many. Think about it..... at an initial sticker price over $32K, that works out to a depreciation of about $31/mile. Not very many buyers can afford that kind of hit.

I really appreciate the input. The person that currently owns the car has several. He has the means. I know him fairly well. He has kept this car insured and with current registration. Talk about the costs.

I have looked at Edmunds and KBB. There is a very wide range between theit values for this car. However it is at least worth the price. KBB has it listed for several thousands more than Edmunds. Anyone else see this difference? I have not been back due to the weather but will make arrangements soon. To drive the car for the first time.

Thanks again
