Okay guys, I need your help. I've got a 2006 Spec V that has to have its emissions tested next month. I got rid of the cat and put headers on but now I can't see to find my stock cat. Is there anyway to get around having to put a cat back on? I was told that I could have the ECU tuned out so it would read that I still have one but that it might not work considering that I still have the stock ECU.

I need all the advice you can give me. Thanks guys!

If I remember correctly, an OBII sensor would tell the ECU that there's a cat.

I don't know anything about this car. I work on Subaru's and this was a hand me down from my brother. I've called a performance shop to see if they can do anything.

Talk me through what I can or need to do.

Or at least what I can do to get the check engine light off to pass.

Even if you got the light off it would still fail for not having a readiness set on the cat. I have heard that people have been able to use spark plug anti-foulers to get the sensor far enough out of the exhaust stream that it fools the computer.

Yeah, I don't have a cat on mine, but we don't have emissions here, so I never bothered with the light.

So is there no way around it then?

There should be/is, but I would suspect it's not so easy and not frequently done.

There are also O2 simulators that you can buy off the internet. Don't know why I didn't think of that the first time.

So you took the stock exhaust mani off and put a header on. Is the main cat still in (basically underneath the front seat area in the exhaust stream)?

If yes, just have the wiring on the 2nd O2 sensor extended so that it can go behind the main cat. You'll have to have a bung welded into the exhaust back there too.

The cat in the stock exhaust mani is just a precat for when the engine is cold. The one underneath the car does the bulk of the work.

Alternatively, you can get a spark plug defouler and do that trick. Check the Table of Contents linked in my sig, the Common Fixes thread has an explanation.

Getting rid of a 2nd O2 sensor code is easy.
