Hello All,

I'm in the need of replacing my front brakes and rotors. I'm trying to decide if I should have them replaced at my local Nissan dealership which would include OEM replacement parts. This route is a bit expensive. Or, have a friend replace them and I would supply the parts. I called around to a couple auto part stores and they are considerably less expensive. I'm leaning towards having my friend replace them, but I have some hesitation on where I should buy the parts (ie. AutoZone, Napa, PepBoys). Any recommendations??

Thanks in advance,
Josh

I forgot to mention that I have stock tires and rims.

Thanks,

I tend to find lower prices for parts online. If you are looking for OE parts, we have a couple of sponsors that sell OE parts. Several of our vendors sell performance aftermarket parts as well. If you are looking for brands sold by places like Pep Boys, Napa, Autozone, etc., you can search on google for those. Even Amazon sells such parts, which could be a bonus if you have a prime account.

Thanks for the reply. Would you notice a significant performance decrease from using aftermarket parts vs. OE parts?

Do you have recommendations on aftermarket parts vs. any others?

Thanks!!!

I just replaced the front and rear pads and rotors on my 04' QX56. I bought OEM rotors online (Infiniti of Scottsdale) and brought them to Midas. They did the install and added their lifetime pads. The brakes are wonderful now ...I was also on the fence about going with an aftermarket brand like Brembo or Stillen but these were quite a bit more expensive and to be honest, I replaced my OEM rotors with Brembo cross-drilled ones on my Range Rover some years back and the brakes were actually worse with the Brembos. This time, I opted for the OEMs and this was a smart decision. The QX56 is a heavy truck and if you go with aftermarket cheap rotors, you might be wasting your money. I would not mess around with the brakes on a truck like this.

Thanks for the reply. That was my thinking with using aftermarket parts. I'll go with the OE parts.

OE rotors might not be a bad idea, but you should be able to get away with aftermarket pads.

...believe it or not, the pads you buy now will probably NOT be the same pads as what came originally on your QX (unless they have been sitting on that inventory for a while). The pad material changed slightly due to the Japan earthquake this year. Plenty of testing has been done to validate the new material though.
