2006 QX56 Clicking Noise From Climate Control System

I'm trying to trouble shoot an anoying clicking noise in the front dash. Upon every startup, a loud, regular frequency clicking noise occurs for about 10 seconds within the front dash. This same noise occures after a minute or so upon turning the truck off.

I have been able to duplicate the noise when the truck is running every time I turn on the front facing interior climate control air vents on using the Mode button. This noise does not occour when the front facing vents are shut off or closed - this only occurs when the vents are commanded to open.

I suspect the air valve or baffle is defective or there is something interferring with it.

Has anyone else experieced this issue? Any advice regarding how to eliminate the issue?

By the way, the rear AC system does the same thing every time I switch control to the rear - from the front control. The sound comes from the rear passenger side of the truck.

I haven't heard of this issue before - but there's not a ton of 56 traffic on here... you might want to browse through your factory service manual - available at www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ for some ideas. If nothing else, you'll see how to disassemble your dash in the area for a better look to see if you can isolate the source of the noise.

It sounds like you have a sticking/skipping air conditioner mode door motor.


Depending on the location of the noise it is either number 10 or basically where the arrow going off and to the top left is originating from.

If it is the one of the right side of the dash board the whole dash pad will have to come out. The left side can come out but it is an advanced level repair. I have contemplated paying someone to do the ones I have had to do I would highly recommend getting help on this one, if you haven't already.

This is one of the worst jobs I have had to do in my time with Infiniti.

I completed the replacement of the air door motor on the drivers side. Cost at the dealership for the part was 38$.
