Hello. New to the forum but refer to the forums frequently. I am getting the p0507 code and have cleaned the throttle body and did the idle relearn procedure. I cleared the code twice and it keeps coming back. What is the next step? Of course inspection is due this month so I need to get it done soon so I dont have to make a trip to the courthouse to renew the registration(they are linked). Do I replace the idle control valve, pcv, throttle body? I have found info on this but I am looking for the most direct and quickest approach. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Hopefully, someone with direct experience will give you the direct answer you seek, but this is how I would look at it.

From the EC section of the FSM, page 465 I see that you should look for intake leaks and probably change the PCV valves.
Apart from visual checks of cracks in the rubber, you can spray things like carb cleaner around the engine to try and pinpoint where there is one.
For the PCV, I'd just replace the valves.

This is what I'm talking about:

How did you cleaned the TB? Did you just sprayed the TB from one side with some cleaner with the engine running or did you removed the whole TB and carefully cleaned by both inside and outside while opening the valve a little bit to reach all around? What you used to do your idle relearn and how do you know your car took it correctly? Was your car at operating temperature when you were doing your idle relearn? What is your idle rpm right now. If you did not cleaned your TB by removing it and cleaning it manually on both sides and opening the valve manually a little bit and cleaning under the valve, your TB is still dirty on the other side even if you can not see it. The sludge accumulates precisely in that lower area, which is supposed to be slightly open when the TB is totally closed, and this will never let your idle relearn to be done properly. I also think if I am not mistaken that your idle control valve is part of your TB integrated as a unit so if the problem were your TB you just change it. Let us know what you did.

I removed the TB and cleaned both sides. The relearn procedure I followed from you tube. I cant remember the exact sequence but it involved turning the key to the on position and back off 3 times and then pushing the gas pedal and then holding down the pedal until the check engine light blinks. I will replace the PCV tonight and report back.

I can't recall if that's the correct procedure, but the procedure is documented in the factory service manual, if you'd like to confirm.there too.

I think I have posted it before like 3 times, but there is a free app called nissan data scan 2 lite for android that will do the whole idle relearn for you is you have a compatible code reading dongle that cost like 13 dollars on ebay. Make sure your car is at operating temperature and that you get the proper rpm after the idle relearn. You can not have any engine codes or engine lights on during the relearn or it wont take. That is why the app is so useful, because you can erase any engine codes and start the relearn a second later , avoiding any engine code that pops up to interrupt the process.

I changed the pcv valve and in the process found a large tear/crack in the coupling that attaches the TB to the intake duct. I am not sure how I missed it when cleaning the TB. Of course no one had the part so I had to order it. I will update once the part comes in.

It's great to see this. Seems like the troubleshooting is heading in the right direction.
Looking forward to your update.

I replaced the hose/coupling and am still having the problem. I did all of the resets per the service manual too. I guess maybe the throttle body is bad?? I have 155k miles on the vehicle.

Get the free nissan data scan lite app and do the idle relearn properly. You have to clear all the codes before doing the idle relearn. While there is a code running the idle relearn wont take. Do you have any pictures of how the TB looked inside after you cleaned it?

So just to sum up and close this out:
- Found 2 leaks in the couplers in the duct work and changed out the couplers
- replaced pcv valve. tore the breather hose in the process and replaced (new one was flexible and easier to work with). also made sure pcv was snug and not loose
- tried numerous times to do the idle air re-learn and check engine light kept coming back on
- changed the throttle body (and taught my son how to do it - bonus)
- performed the idle air re-learn procedure 3 times and it worked the third time

So I have to assume it was the TB but I am not sure if maybe somehow I did the relearn procedure wrong but it is running much better now. Any way the pathfinder has 155k miles so it doesnt hurt changing the TB. The link to the service manual was a huge help. Thanks

Are you going to keep your old TB or justr throw it away?

Alpine. glad you were able to solve the situation. For future searches, I will mark the thread as resolved, both by throttle body and air leaks. I think the idle reset probably didn't like your older TB but then again, the PCV valves come into play - There were a lot of possibilities.
