Hello all.....been looking for a while, but I thought I'd register and say hello. I've done a search and found some of what I need, but still need the experts to guide me in the right direction on a few things. I have a 2006 Murano SE that is ready for it's 30,000 mile service. The dealership wants almost $600 for the service, but some of the stuff I've already done.I want to get the transmission flush done....the coolant flush...the belts....and the tires rotated. The other things I have already done or can do myself.

One of the items was to replace the differential fluid with synthetic. It's a front wheel drive and the casing should be fully enclosed........why would they want to replace this?? This is upwards of another $150 and I'm not sure it's necessary.

In rear differentials its almost never necessary unless you change the drive gear and race it hard.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks MIke

First off, welcome to NICOclub, I hope you enjoy the Murano forum! I have always done what the dealer suggested, but I have a dealer I have been working with for over 10 years. I know they wouldn't try to sell me something I didn't need. If you have any doubts, I would suggest calling another Nissan dealer to see what they recommend. Also, look in your owner's manual, read the maintenance guide, there is a chart that shows when you should have each service performed.

I would suggest doing this all yourself. None of it is or should be that hard... I did everything on my Frontier with no problems.

You can get the service manual here: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/murano/

It'll have diagrams & instructions about how to do everything.

I would recommend doing EVERYTHING that the owner's manual suggests... you won't need to go beyond that. I always follow manufacturer's recommendations -- it doesn't hurt.

Under normal (non severe) driving conditions, there is NO 30K maintenance required. In fact, I just had a 60K (free) checkup done by my local dealer, and the only thing they recommended is a future accesory belt change - due to cracking which is common on any belts a year or more old.

I bought my 04 SE new 10/04. With 60K miles on them, the original GY's are certainly going to need replacement before next winter, but the original brake pads - front and rear - are still fine.

Sorry for responding to such an old post, but I'm new here.

(oops - just realized that if you consider engine oil and oil filter, air filter and in-cabin filter maintenance, then those DO need to be done regularly)
