Howdy,

I just had to replace the left front wheel bearing on a 2000 Maxima with 215,000 miles. It sounded like it had mud grips on it driving down the highway. I could tell it was left front. So I jacked it up and found too much play when grabbing the entire wheel and seeing if it would move up/down when pulling on it.

They are a pain to replace. Have to be pressed in. The right front is the one the usually goes out first, mine was an odd deal. With yours being an 06 model I would find it hard to believe that the bearing was going out.

I took the old bearing apart that I replaced and they are built heavy duty with big ball bearings. I would try jacking up the right front end and see if you have any play, then go from there. Not sure what else it could be unless you have original equipment tires, they could be nearing the end of their short lived lives. They make a lot of noise too when they get worn, and the sound could quieten down after the rubber gets warm.

Maybe rotate the tires to see if the sound follows the tire. My sisters 2006 Maxima had Continentals on it that were wore slap out at 36000, and that was easy driving, plus they were noisy as all get out.

Good luck,

Johnrude
