I just did an oil/filter service for $99 (synthetic oil) at the dealer (tustin infiniti). the only reason i went to the dealer for this service was because i heard about the recall on the climate control module which i also did.

i plan to do the same oil/filter service using synthetic every 4250 miles. how does this forum feel about that interval?

what about the cost? anyone recommend i take it to a jiffy lube or other discount shop? im not exactly sure what the savings would be...

laslty, did anyone else do this recall service?

RTFSM. In the past, 3,750 was the severe (urban driving) OCI.

I have always taken my cars to the dealer for servicing. my previous car was a 2002 Lincoln LS. If there was a problem or any other servicing needed it was right there in the records.

I plan on taking my M35 to the Infinity dealership here for the oil changes. I know it's expensive but i don't some discount company performing any service on my M35. IMO

I'm using synthetic but still stick to the 3750 interval. Once a car gets out of warranty I stretch it to 5K.

I change it myself. Which reminds me - who designed that stupid plastic cover? It seems to be made for the M35, not the M45. Just bending it at the flap doesn't leave room to easily remove the filter. I end up taking the whole thing off - over a dozen @#$ bolts!

Is there a link to the climate control issue? I'm not finding it. Thanks

Hey Dave:

Just take the car to any Infinity dealer, i was surprised when they came back 30 minutes later and everything was completed.

When my warranty expires i'll be changing my own oil also..but damn thats not till 2012...LOL

Good DayMad Max

The recommeded service interval is 3750, what made you come to the conclusion of 4250?

The 4.5 doesn't like to have too much oil in it and may cause a stumble at idle. All the previous posters were correct in saying if you ever havea problem and have serviced it an "Infiniti" dealer you will not have an issue. IMO its good for piece of mind.

The climate contol recall only applied to a very limited number of early Ms, and does not really cause and drivability concerns. Glad to hear that yours is working fine though.

I switched to Mobil 1.

The tech and service writer both said I am good to do it every 5k. Can't imagine Mobile 1 not holding up another 1250 miles.

I buy a case of 6 at Costco for $30, and pay $25 at the dealership for the labor, filter, and hand car wash. So $55 for a full synthetic change.

My 2006 M45S is a very early model

Does anyone have the ITB/TSB number?

nothing sophisticated, just an educated estimate based on my driving conditions.

To a point the oil interval is not the problem. The tiny volume of sump and size of filter media is the major limit to oil longevity.

here you gohttp://x.infinitihelp.com/foru...d=197ITB08-0362006 INFINITI M35 / M45; VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN RADIATOR FAN CONTROL MODULEOn some 2006 M35/45 vehicles, the radiator fan motor may begin to operate incorrectly or not operate at all. If this occurs, in certain limited circumstances, the engine control logic may temporarily reduce engine output in order to protect against overheating damage. To prevent this potential condition, Infiniti is conducting this Voluntary Service Campaign to replace the radiator fan control module free of charge for parts and labor.

Oh I see what you are talking about I thought you were referring to the climate control knob recall that only effected a very small amount of 06s.

The cooling fan controller recall should be performed if you have received the letter from Infiniti.I have only seen one fail and it wasn't even failed it would just cycle on and off all the time.

As for the oil interval. I think that if you stick to ~4250 you should be ok, I was just curious at the interval. If you do properly maintain your M you should have very good luck with it.

Be careful with Mobil 1. They've recently degraded their formula to "fit in" with the masses. I think they now use grade 3 base stock instead of grade 4. I still need to get more details regarding the change, but I think it means that they used broken down and recontrusted molecules from mineral (read dino) oil instead of a purely synthetic base stock.

I use a 3750 mile interval with Mobil 1 0W-40. And change the filter then too, of course!

As far as I am concerned, if you do it at that maximum mileage (or less), almost any good dino or synthetic oil will be perfectly fine to use.

Basically, the interval is far more important than the type of oil. The tiny oil filter bothers me a lot ...
