Just picked up a 2006 M45, clean car and seems to run out pretty well. My question, is there a tune available to firm up the shifts in the auto trans that won't cause an issue? Shifts OK driving easy, or at full throttle,, but too soft when you lean on it a bit.

Also, what about changing the trans fluid? Fill procedure seems a bit goofy, is it worth having the dealer change it?

Thanks!

Welcome aboard!

I'm always a fan of fluid changes (ALL of them) when acquiring a new (to me) car.

My guess is that the M was set up with more aggressive shifting at WOT, but milder changes when leaning into it from a roll. Luxury car, luxury feel.

BTW, unless you're mechanically retarded, I'd tackle the trans flush myself. We have the FSM available here if you get in a jam.

In my M35x I tried some Castrol TransMax Multi-Import that met the Nissan Matic-D compatability/standard criteria but soon drained and filled with Matic S from the dealer (Matic D NLA) and it made a significant difference.

I would replace the trans oil with Nissan only, disconnect the battery to reset the ECU and let the adaptive transmission relearn, and if you still arent satisfied, the next steps I would take are to add a trans cooler and upgrade the valve body

I have the dealer do it. That way someone other than ME is at fault if it all goes to blazes in a buggy and I can't be bothered to be stuck with such a filthy chore and a bin full of dirty gearbox fluid in my garage. I know labor will cost me but I consider that a "labor avoidance" fee, LOL. Plus, you can buy the actual Nissan fluid on Ebay or Amazon to keep the gearbox OEM and avoid the 100% markup that dealer's charge on any parts they supply.
Examples:
I have had every single oil + filter change done at my dealer but I have NEVER paid the dealer for the actual oil - I bring my own oil ($22.00 / 5 quart Mobil-1 jug at Walmart Vs $55 / 5 quarts at the dealer).
I NEVER pay the dealer $400 for a front wheel brake pads and another $400 for the rear wheel pads. I bring them a $225 Brakemotive kit and have ALL FOUR rotors and pads replaced for a $200 labor charge. Instead of paying the dealer $800 JUST for pads. I pay a little over $400 - and that includes new rotors AND pads!
I wanted my serpentine belt replaced. The dealer charges $175 and they supply the belt. I bought that same OEM belt from Infinitiu online for $40 and paid $65 for labor at the dealer ($105).
