2006 M45 terrible rattling noise

I have a 2006 m45 purchased used last year(Feb). Twice in this time span while driving a horrible rattling/knocking sound has started. Getting louder with more rpm. The engine loses a little power and idles very poorly. This goes on for about 20 minutes than goes away, especially if able to get to highway speed. Has anyone had similar problems, hope not related to engine failure noted by other posts.

My M was smoking on start up and knocked for a few seconds, then all was good, just the oil burn. You might just have a bad cattalitic converter or even a simple muffler gone bad. Check all your fliuds and search the rattle posts in nico.

Rattle was definetly coming form engine bay, Installed megan mufflers about 5 months ago anyway

I used to get that noise after ive already been driving for a while, and it apparently was a failed Piston. I had the engine replaced under warranty. The exact same thing happen to me 3-4 times...very poor idle, felt like it would almost stall, gets much louder with RPM and would suddenly disappear and not come back for weeks or months. The last time it happened i was able to record the above video and it thankfully lasted all the way to the dealership.

I would suggest next time is happens drive immediately to the closest infiniti dealership so they can hear it for themselves.....hearsay doesn't go far.

P.S. I didnt have any oil problems with my old engine....passed an oil consumption test a few weeks before the engine replacement.

Thats the sound exactly, but it has only happened twice within the year and seems to go away within 20 mins or reaching highway speeds. Thank you

Sounds like you got what I had I suggest you keep a video camera handy!!!

Of course told the dealer, showed the video, said it was the exact same noise, they suggested everything from low oil to bad gas and ect... But they will look at it this thursday. Will keep u posted.

My 2007 m45 has this rattling noise , i think it comes from the muffler or the heat shields. i dont know what to do to make the noise stop and i hate it when i be parked or in drive and its quiet and all you hear is this loud rattling noise, it is embarrassing. ANY SUGGESTIONS!!!!

Adonis do you recall what the exact problem and fix was for the rattling noise?
