I just read this article that said there was some sort of SAE thing in 2004 that cause the power to be dropped from 335hp and 340tq down to 325hp and 336tq.

Article http://www.infiniti.com/pdf/m/...7.pdf

Why is this the only publication to distribute that fact for the 2006 model? I knew that for 07' and 08' but for the 06' as well?!?! that is

Anyone know what they are reffering to?

Well, I looked it up and I guess it is supposed to standardize HP figures based on friction losses from accessory drives.

Quote »SAE J1349 Update:

In August 2004 the SAE released J1349 Revised AUG2004 which specifies that the preferred method of determining the friction power used by the motor accessories is actual measurement, and that the assumption of 85% mechanical efficiency (as formerly used in SAE J1349 Revision JUN90) should only be used when actual friction data are not available.

The AUG2004 revision also makes it clear that this correction factor is not intended to provide accurate corrections over an extremely wide range, but rather that the intended range of air temperatures is 15 to 35 deg C, and the intended range of dry air pressures is 900 to 1050 mb. [/quote]

Whatever that means

The revised SAE numbers are supposed to be more representative of the actual HP at the engine crank.... Not to disappoint you but further HP is lost via the transmission and the differential so by the time it gets to the rear wheels its even less. RWHP is often considerably less than what is represented by engine output.

Either way, from what it is saying, the model years that were posted at 340hp were actually only getting what they are currently advertised at.That's what I get out of it.So we all have the same power man.

Don't panic people. It is only a change in reporting of the engine output, there is no other change, the output does not change - just assumptions that affect HP measurement.

Once again, the engine's power does not change, only the way we measure it does. Semantics, as far as I am concerned. WHP is what really matters. If you want to know what your car puts down, take it to a dyno and find out. Not all engines and drivetrain components are created equal.

I'm no stranger to a dyno...probably have more dyno time than most at least on a dynojet. I know the difference between RWHP and crank power, drive train losses etc, etc, etc..

I was just worried that we all got jipped in the hp numbers, so now when I go to the dyno I won't be wondering where my other 10hp went even though it is the same power just different scale.
