Got the exhaust in today and decided to save the $125 install cost and do it myself. Here is how it went.

Went on a 2006 M45 with 20K Miles.

Out of the box they were the full catback system, stainless steel and direct bolt on- no mods needed.

Went with the oval canisters and oval tip. They are sweet!

Here is the stock exhaust. To install I just backed up on a ramp unit and went to work. Took me an hour. Easy to do with all the right tools.

Stock soundhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfkpK_K-BR8

Element 114 sound to come

I forgot to tighten one bolt and you can hear it rattling in the first element Vid. All fixed tho.

Inside the car its a nice suttle hum sound, not annoying.

Very cool!!! I like the sound

Can you get a clip of it launching and maybe some drive by's? One regular cruise, then another at wide open, and maybe one where it starts as regular then you punch it?

Just some ideas but yeah - sounds great!!

The exhaust added alot of horse power that is definitely FELT!!

On element 114's website they claim atleast 16hp gain and you can definitely feel it. Even with the 22's its much faster than stock.

A definite addition to any M!

Who would want that???...lol...not after you posted the difference.

I have a peeving question for you. Do you drive down the street with your license plate covered??? I don't get your reasoning for this. What's the difference from us seeing your license plate and your local city seeing it?? Please let me in on this secret??? By the way, sounds really good! I really wish they made the tips in quad form.....

How much did you have to pay for the cat-back system? I am looking at Stillen for my 2007 M35 but if there is a price difference may go another way.

The general public can not attribute forum comments to you. Not that this is a very adversarial forum but to Joe Q. Public you are just a guy in a car, but to a guy on here, you might be the guy that took a pot shot at his wheels or called him a dummy for driving 110 MPH with a nail in his tire.

But, I love those wheels and the new exhaust system! You did good!

Looks good! Question, I know that is a direct bolt on, but should the hangers have spot welds to keep the unit from rattling? Diff between self install and muffler shop install?

As for covering up the license plate, I take every precaution now a days to prevent being jacked again. Ive been jacked twice already and the latest just this last August 08. They took my truck and the lexus riight outta the driveway. (Its meant to be, as thats how I ended up with the M45!) Way better than the Lexo

But anyways, talking to undercover police who finally caught the stupid 18 yr olds, you have to be aware of everything now a days, from watching whos following you home, observing looky loos in the park N ride, not parking in the very back of the parking lot, and covering your license plate in pics as a determined crook can look it up online or find someone that can and then visit you at home.

Take a gander at my truck they stole, its a hole other beast but I love it just as much as the M! I did get the truck back they just took the wheels off but got new ones.

Unit has ZERO rattling, they replicate exactly what the OEM exhaust has in terms of hanging. The new exhaust hangs on standard rubber mounts that sway and move with the body of the car to prevent metal rattling noises, which is just as it is stock.

Here is a pic, the old exhaust slides out and the new one slides in.

And there are like 5 of these that hold the entire sytem on.

In terms of welding, the only thing you could have welded is the pipes itself. I had the pipes on my truck welded but I will only have that done if I see any leaks or the stupid bolts loosen. Other than that, you would see a muffler shop do the same install, only difference is they have a lift.

If you guys want another secret on the exhaust- KILLER PRICE -

List price is $1195 , I called my local Element 114 dealer and thats what they said. So add tax its maybe $1400 + $125 install so about $1525.

What you all think I paid? 1000? - nope

900? ---- NOPE

800? ---- NOPE

700? ----- NOPE

600? ----- NOPE

500 ---- YUP!!!!

Killer deal.

Here's the link - Seller has 4 Left so go get em. You have to offer him $500 but thats his magic number. I got mine fed ex to me in 3 days after I paid.

Oh yeah, $90 shipping but still I saved $1525-$590 = a HOLE HELLA LOT

Let me know how you guys do.

Any competent exhaust shop can hack off whatever is on there and re-weld whatever you want on it to replace it.

Just be sure that whoever does the welding protects the polished muffler canister and tip so the finish isn't affected from the welding splatter.

If you wanted to get high tech you can find someone that does TIG welding which has no splatter and if they are good, the welds will look spectacular. I know of some here locally that run their business out of their truck - mobile welding rigs....call and check their rate before booking though.

I just pulled the trigger!! I offered $500 and he shot back $540 saying it was his cost. I offered $525 and he accepted.

I was never planning on getting a cat-back system due to the cost versus any performance gains. But, at that price I could not resist. That is less than my local shop wanted to charge me for two new mufflers and tips.

Strike now while the iron is hot boys!

Why are the canisters oval instead of round like Element 114 offers???Is he talking about the tips or the mufflers themselves?

I tried to call Element 114 several times and cannot get through to them. It is saying there's network difficulties....... I just want to know why they changed the muffler styling.

ATSELLAB: Where did you get those car ramps from? The ones I have came across locally do not look to be as good of quality as those.

I'm not so sure if I should buy them. As I cannot afford .... (wife's fault!!) to pay what he is wanting for them now! He won't go lower than $575.00!! Wife is saying no. I offered $515.00.... he said no.

I cannot believe the wife wont budge on fricken $75 more dollars!!!!!!Well.... I tried. This is what happens when you buy things for your wife.................She says she doesn't want it to sound louder at all anyways. I can see this is going to be difficult with trying to mod this car....She says she doesn't want to buy anything until after our taxes have been done/ paid/ or hopefully refunded!Oh, well....WOMEN!!
