Hi there !
Nice forum with lots of info !
Purchased an 06 M45 Sport yesterday, love it ! Car is mint Gray over Black Leather in Tech Pkg..

So the previous owner had a sub hooked up but took the subs out, i want to go back to original sound.
Poped the trunk cover off and see aftermarket wires running in/out of the stock amp.
I have connected the Bose Sub plug w/ 2 wires that were cut off and sub works now but very little.
Also looks like i dont get too much bass from front/back speakers..
What do i do to get everything back to stock sound ?? Just take out all aftermarket wires and wrap each original wire in elec tape ?

Please help!
Thanks :)

The sound system in this car isn't that powerful (as far as bass goes)...you sure you just aren't expecting more than it really is? The interior speakers aren't good for bass...the only thing that really puts out bass is the rear-deck sub.

Yes. The rear deck sub works but very little..
My best friend has an 07 M45 and its different, deff more bass.

Just dont know what should i connect or take out to bring everything back to stock??

I read that while ppl install aftermarket subs they pin a few of those wires into either rear/front stock speaker wires.. So not sure what to do..

Don't want to be a BadNewsBear, but there are other things in your car that the previous owner might have tampered with or possibly removed. If you have the Bose surround (speakers on the front seats), there are amplifiers and other gizmos that direct sound frequencies to particular speakes, etc. If the previous owner messed with that stuff, you may have a bit of detective work ahead of you to fiqure out how to change back to the factory settings and sound.

As for bass, My system is 100% OEM and the quality of sound you hear is based on the input. The bottom of the heap is radio stations (reg or HD) - they send crap qualilty and you get crap on the speakers.
Next up the list is XM - better quality and some stations even cause the surround sound stage to activate while giving very strong bass.
The best quality sound comes from your CDs - especially the CDs you burn. The sound rorm those is amazing! The bass doesn't rattle inside or outside. It's not like the $300 cars with the $5000 stereos you hear at traffic lights, LOL. My system is DEF noticeble inside and out - even standing outside the car you can hear the bass and feel it when you lay your hand on the outside of the car.
*** Also, just a word about the speakers on the seats: They are NOT actually there to put out strong sound and are usually just barely heard. They are part of the surround system and are designed to help 'fill in' the sound field inside the car - they are NOT meant to draw your attention, or be heard individually over any other speaker. They also don't don't activate for reg radio stations. Good quality CDs and Most XM stations activate them and I'm right pleased to report that XM 51 and XM 52 sound brilliant and make plenty of bass!

What you might want to look at is making sure the wires are spliced back together properly. The audio processing unit has different eq/frequency settings going to different speakers. If you/he crossed any of those wires you might be sending say the door speakers to the sub...although matching the wire colors easily fixes that. Also the previous owner could have simply blown the speakers why it isn't outputting what you think it should...although that would be a distinctive sound. Your base and fade could simply be turned down in the head unit...although I'm sure you checked that.

My bet is you have the wires of the rear swapped with the sub. Take out all the aftermarket wires, match the original wires. Wrap them in electrical tape. If everything sounds normal, unwrap them, solder them, and put heat shrink tubing.

If you remove the trunk liner under the rear shelf, cover the bare metal with DynaMat or equivalent, then replace the trunk liner - the rattle goes away and the bass is even more pronounced. Or ... you could do as my mate did with his M45. He painted two tennis balls black to match the rear shelf and wedged them on either side of the top brake lamp housing between the rear wind screen and the rear shelf. Worked just as well as my remedy, believe it or not.
