Just had the engine replaced. Picked it up today and had to reset all of the electric gear - one-touch windows, seat position, etc. I expected that. Got home and started cleaning the car and realized that the key fob switch and dash release switch for the trunk are not working. Checked the trunk bypass switch in the glove box. There is very little discernible travel between positions on this switch. However, neither position allows the trunk to open, though I really can't tell if the switch is moving. Manual unlock with the key works. Is there a fuze associated with this problem? Am guessing that there is some connection to taking the engine out and disconnecting electrical power. The AirCon is also not cooling. It worked fine pre-engine replacement. Two electrical issues [guessing] like that sure sound like a fuze or a missed reconnection of some wire in putting the engine back in. Any suggestions other than take it back to the mechanic? I'm already going to take it back next week for a check up on the engine install, but I want to avoid extra trips for the time waste.

I would definitely go through all of the fuse panels and make sure things are plugged in where they need to be. Also go through the relay boxes in the engine compartment.

Who did the work? Dealer or non-dealer mechanic?

As Ilya mentions check fuses. Also if the trunk opens mechanically see if anything may be disconnected with the trunk release motor wiring.

As far as tha A/C goes, it sounds like the mechanic may have banged around the lines while installing the engine or in some other way leaked out your refrigerant. Does the compressor turn on when you turn on the A/C?

Since you will be visiting the mechanic again test everything and make notes on what works and what doesn't then report them when you visit. Be prepared to argue that all of these items worked prior to brining the car to the mechanic and also be prepared to be without a car for a while. Sorry to hear about your bad visit. Next time find a different mechanic.

It was a non-dealer mechanic. AC is fully charged, just not kicking on. He thinks it is in a relay box in the engine compartment, which makes sense, since the engine was replaced. He checked all of the fuses. The frustration is that he can't seem to find documentation for which box affects the AC clutch or the trunk release. It's his nickle, but I don't want to be without the car any longer than necessary while he digs around to every relay box.
