Hey there everyone. My name is Anders and I am new to the forum as well as new to the M35X. I have had mine for just under a month now and it sounds a little grumblier off the line at high RPM than I am comfortable with. I have been so busy that I have not been able to get it back to a dealer to check it out yet, so I thought I'd see if it sounds familiar to anyone here in the mean time.

Accellerating hard from stop, I hear a slight grinding sound. It is just enough to be heard over the engine, and it only seems to be happening in first to second, and only at high RPM. If I accelerate away at lower RPM I never hear it. If I accelerate hard while at speed I never hear it. I am worried it might be the transmission, but perhaps it is related to the AWD? Maybe it is a normal sound for the M35X? The sound seems to be coming from center foward, not behind. If I really accelerate hard it lasts longer but it seems to fade out after the first gear change.

Thanks, and Happy holidays!

-Anders

Welcome to NICO!

Have you shown this to your dealer? If so, what did they say?

could be possible that your engine is knocking or pinging under hard acceleration. are you running it on regular gasoline? if so maybe you should try switching. it could also be something loose rattling like a heat shield. pop the hood and make sure everything isnt loose.if you think its the transmission,, then maybe its time for a fluid change unless thats done already.

I have not been back to the dealer yet unfortunately as my work has been keeping me completely swamped. I am hoping to take it back next weekend for a once over.

I wondered if it might be something to do with the traction control or AWD since it only happens when accelerating from idle. It is pretty subtle sounding, but I would definitely describe it is a dull low frequency grinding sound. And again, I really have to accelerate hard for it to happen, and once the car is up to second gear it is usually gone.

I'll see if I can record it with my iphone
