2006 M35x shifter problems after slight disassembly

I've searched and couldn't find detailed information on my problem.
I purchased the $100 plug-and-play navigation bypass, and wired the switch up into the ashtray. That required me to take out the cupholders, and the wood trim piece around the shifter. I didn't break anything, took the shifter button and clip off carefully, put everything back properly, but now the car sometimes takes a bit more of an effort to get out of park and sometimes takes a little bit more effort to lock back into park. Any suggestions? Does anyone have a shifter assembly diagram so I can track down the problem?

Look at the fsm on here. I would try taking it apart and putting it back together one more time to see if you find something causing the problem.
