My car has been sitting for about two weeks. Went to start it yesterday. It cranked over; sounded like it was going to start, but it never did. I could smell gas as if it was flooded.

This morning I tried to start it, and the battery is completely dead. The battery is only a year old. I am currently trying to charge it. Not sure if the two issues are related.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My guess is they are related. I'd get the battery tested...it's possible you got a dud or one that was killed by cold weather (do you live somewhere cold)? My wifes battery works fine if the car is started every day, but if it sits for 2-3 days I need to jump it. Like this morning, I jumped it and she'll be fine coming home from work and tomorrow morning. But if she doesn't work tomorrow and has to go somewhere saturday, I'll need to jump it again. Need to get one myself but I'd start with the battery.

I had the same issue. I got the battery charged twice after it wouldn't start after a few days of not driving it. By that time I thought it was time to get a new battery. Went to Costco and got a new battery. Haven't had that problem since. My car will sit in a garage for 4-5 days at a time some weeks and will start up no problem with the new battery. We all know Costco's awesome return policy and 4 year warranty on batteries. :dblthumb:

Quickest way to find out if it is related is to jump the battery with another car or one of those portable jump starters
