2006 M35x - auxiliary plugs in the back to hook up an I-Pod

I can't use the plug. I can't find anywhere in the manual that tells you how to access the auxiliary plugs to try to run an I-pod or anything else through these plugs in the back between the front seats. I purchased a plug for this purpose but can not get it to work. Please give me some guidance if this is possible. Thanks
