Hello. This is my first time posting. I have been lurking for several years here on NICO. I have been a proud owner of two Infiniti's now. My first was a 2001 QX4. And now my 2006 M35x.

I am having several issues with my 2006 M35x. It keeps overheating. I have replaced the thermostat and checked the fluid. But it keeps overheating. Fans work fine.

Could it be the water pump? Or maybe the radiator is cracked?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm going to assume that you have not taken your M to Infiniti for any problem analysis. You probably know this but the M35X is a lot more complicated vehicle than the QX4.I own the same vehicle technically (2001 Patherfinder). You didn't comment on the M in terms of milage, or purchase terms,or anything related to service. I can tell you if this car keeps overheating that's a big problem and can obviously do damage. The first thing that comes to mind is the transmission. If it were me I would not attempt to resolve this issue myself. I would take it to Infiniti for diagnostics. Good Luck.

First off, if your radiator was cracked you would be leaking fluid. Your fans activating properly is a good sign also. What was the condition of your thermostat? Was it clogged up with calcium? You can try your own flush with water. Fill it and flush a few times (drain the radiator). The water pump itself should be a relatively inexpensive part with the prominence of your motor. It is not a difficult thing to change and I would start with that. Make sure you properly remove the air from the system when you refill. Google "radiator bleeding" .

Good luck

To the guy above...

You don't necessarily have to have leaking coolant for a radiator crack. I had a micro crack that was enough to lose pressure and cause my car to overheat (fx35). I didn't leak coolant through the crack.

STOP RUNNING THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY! If you overheat an engine, you may end up warping/cracking the block and/or cooking expensive electronics.

Do a leakdown test and look for bubbles in the coolant. This is the only way to determine if it's the head gasket, or water pump (if water pump, there won't be bubbles).

Thank you everybody for the help. I was able to take the radiator out this weekend and found a huge crack on the top portion. I am replacing the radiator this weekend. Glad I have a work truck to get me by. Again thanks for your replies. Nico has saved me tons on money thru the years....
