2006 M35 low beam turns on, flickers then turns off

I have a 2006 M35. The driver side headlight turns on for 5 seconds or so, flickers then turns off. As near as I can tell, I have HIDs. Is this behavior indicative of a bulb going bad/being bad OR something else entirely?
