Hi,

I've got an 06 M35. Car has just over 41,000 on it. When I start it in the morning. (cold) it barely wants to run, then, the fast idle kicks in and it's fine. No check engine light. All starts for the rest of the day are fine no trouble. Has anyone experienced this, and, if so, what was the problem/fix? I'm thinking sparkplugs? or fuel system? I did dump a can of fuel system cleaner in it on top of a full tank of gas. It seems to help, but, it's still not right. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...

What do you mean by barely wants to run? Does the engine crank really slow? Spark plugs last about 100k on the car. You needa be a bit more detailed like does it idle rough and just wants to stall out?

If it's struggling to crank, it's probably due to your battery on it's last stages.

what I mean is it starts, but, barely runs maybe 2-300RPM, it gets on the verge of stalling out, it also runs rough, then, once the fast idle kicks in, (maybe 5 seconds after starting), it's fine. If it was battery it wouldn't crank over or start at all.

Did you get this fixed? What was the problem. My 06 M35X just started doing exactly what you describe. Its fine once it tuns over, it just seems to have a harder time getting there.

I have been having a similar problem with my 2007 M45 Sport. Rough start, but then engine seemns to run fine. 64,500 miles on original spark plugs.

Id clean the injectors with some seafoam or however its done, make sure your air filter isnt really dirty so it is letting enough air in, and reset the ECU (can be done yourself) and see how it goes. Possibly change the spark plugs too but that shouldnt be it since the OEM plugs are rated for 105K miles and it runs fine when warm.

Could be something with the alternator not being able to supply enough current till it get up and going for a minute.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try resetting the ECU and will try some more Seafoam (I had put some in the gas tank a week or so ago). Might be water in the gas, possibly? I replaced the air filter in November, so it should be good. I'll likely have the electricl system checked to make sure I'm getting enough current.

First time I've reset my ECU. Wow, you can really tell the difference! Feels sportier, shifts more quickly.

Enigma: you were right about the battery. Pearson Infiniti replaced the battery and seems to have cleared up the hard starting issue. It was the original battery and after 65,000 miles it was tired.

The problem could be a multitude of things. Consider taking it to the dealership for a 30k service one has been done yet. Or you can just have the dealership run some test on what's causing this problem.

Well, the new battery did not solve the problem. It's actually getting worse: the car has stalled out a couple of times during start-up, and I had to push the ignition start button again to get it to fire up. Took it back to dealer, this time they replaced the crankshaft position sensor. This also did not help. It's going back to the dealer this week. I can sometimes smell unburned gasoline after one of these rough starting episodes. It also seems as if the hotter the weather, the harder the start.

After pulling a code indicating the camshaft position sensor was bad, the dealer replaced the sensor under the Elite extended warranty. This, however, did not fix the hard start problem. Took it back and this time they found a code for a cylinder 5 misfire. Turned out to be a leaking fuel injector rail. Both rails were replaced under Elite warranty. They were decent enough not to charge me another $100.00 deductible for the second repair. Thanks, Pearson Infiniti! Now the M45 is starting up great and running fine. Pretty happy about buying the Elite warranty now!
