2006 M35 CD Player... sound quality?

Over the weekend I purchased an 06 M35 Sport with the Tech pkg. The DVD audio sounds fantastic, but regular CDs played in the 6-disc CD player sound lousy. It's all mid-range with no bass and the sound quality overall is just poor for a CD player.

I think the radio or even my iPhone connected through the aux-input in the back seat sounds better than the CD player, and that shouldn't be.

Any suggestions? I admit, I haven't learned all the settings yet so perhaps there is something simple I could try.

if you're saying it's worse than plugging in an ipod through aux there may be something wrong. I assume you've already played with the bass/hi control. Other than that not much you can do.

I have the same car and package. I added an 8" JL w7 sub, an amp to power it, and had the audio place perform a tune where they essentially tap into the stock headunit, reset the EQ, and then tune it themselves. Plus I had the entire car dynamat'ed. I'm very happy with the sound. Audio CDs sound brilliant, but even before the upgrades I don't remember it sounding that bad.

I would assume if that if the CD player was broken it would cut out or produce feedback, so your ears may just be expecting too much.

Thanks, I suspect you may be right. After listening to it today I really think I just need to find the time to play with the settings. I want to turn off that simulated surround sound and see if it makes a difference.

I am just amazed at the difference in bass levels between DVD-As and CDs. I am not looking for anything loud, but I am just surprized by how little bass there is with the CD player.
